I see nothing wrong with spending on super nice clothes if they are done right.
It is also the cultural norm here in Calgary to spend disgusting amounts on your car, and wear garbage clothes. Pay $300 for a pair of jeans, and people will make fun of you. However, they won't even sneeze at paying $1000 for mechanical work to their $50K truck.
Many places in the world outside Calgary have it the other way around. People walk/subway it around town and spend their car money on clothes. Just priority.
To me, if you get out of an expensive car on Friday night, and are wearing jogging pants, your priorities are screwed up, but again that is just my opinion.
