Well it's tough to know until it actually arrives but, does covering up that isolating gap in the strip on the bottom left corner consistently make the reception drop considerably? This isn't a problem of the phone displaying 0 bars, the calls are dropped. Steve Jobs saying "get a cover" or "don't hold it like that", leads me to believe that it's a problem. If it weren't, he'd likely say something like "it's one small bad batch, and we'll work with those customers to fix it".
