I believe an average hitter wants about a .250+.
That's getting 1 hit for every 4 at bats. A good to great hitter can go .300+. so a hit for every 3 at bats.
Albert Pujols (with Joe Mauer and Dustin Pedroia) is probably one of the best hitters around right now and he goes about .330 on a season. That is pretty insane.
