on paper this deal looks in favor of Pittsburgh. People questioned why the Flames would ever do that because they are a rebuilding team. Spezza is on PPG pace and has put the Flames in a playoff position. Tavares had a hot start in the NHL but has cooled down. Sure Pitts might win this deal long term but so far it has been in the Flames favour. Spezza was injured for awhile in the NHL but has been outstanding since he has returned.
This deal also saw Koivu head to the Flames. It was never really flamed on either end and I think that it was pretty well split down the middle in terms of GM's liking it more for one side then the other. It has definetely worked out for the Flames as they are much better this season. Spezza has always been a sim stud that put up massive numbers. There were just too many players on my team and he was the one who ended up having to go. The way my team is playing I could certainly use a guy like him now.
