Thornton for not one superstar but a bunch of role players. What did Boston get from that. Cap room to sign, Chara, Savard, etc. They now are a playoff team, now if they didn't make that trade they would still be trying for fits to play along with Thornton. |
Any cap space we gained in this is lost if we try to resign or replace Bourque, Stajan and Jokinen.
The only way to be competetive and cap friendly in this league is to get players who can contribute on 1st and sometimes 2nd contracts. Building through free agency is not sustainable.
