The simple AppleScript service plugins will let you do stuff like add a "Rotate 90 degrees" option to only graphics files (ie. only relevant services apply to relevant file types). Essentially its just simple scripts and macros like before, but smartly filtered and made available to you.
I didn't know anything about services until a few day ago - I am suprised they haven't gotten more attention, this is an impressive feature.
