Uhhh.... there's lots of Russian hockey players whose names end in "ov." There aren't any "ovas" in hockey because "ova" is the female equivalent of the suffix "ov."
Also, Canada is much more ethnically diverse than Russia, hence a lot of "ovs" and "ovas" from Russia, and fewer "sons" from Canada.
