Well I'd assume that you'd agree that the religion of the Ancient Greeks is not identical to the Christian religion. Nor that the effect religion had on the city-state of Ancient Greece is identical to the effect Christianity and the institution known as the Catholic church had on life during the Dark Ages, Renaissance, etc.
The Moderns are addressing our modern situation. The effect that Christianity has had on our culture and morality. Socrates obviously couldn't be an expert on that.

Feuerbach, Freud and Marx aren't worth reading? okay then. Guess we'll agree to disagree. I still think Marx is one of the most important thinkers of the last couple hundred years and that he should be read for one's self.
