Picture the hands of a clock.
An inturn would be like starting at 10 and rotating the hand/handle to 12
An outturn would start at 2 and rotate back to 12.

The player throwing the rock at one end of the ice lines himself up with the skips broom at the other end of the ice. The rock thrown may or may not cross the center line. It depends where the skip places the broom, what turn he calls and how much curl the ice has.

Not trying to complicate things but once in awhile on bad ice the rock will fall out against the turn. Inturn thrown yet actually moving like an outturn. I have not watched the entire brier to know if this has happened or not but if you are new to curling this could really screw you up.
