Well, I don't mind it if a film is a bit lengthy, as long as the scenes have some kind of relevance or add something to the film. I felt there were a few scenes that just didn't really need to be in there. I would watch the directors cut just to see if those scenes would be more relevant in that cut.
On the soundtrack, I was told the tracks had some relevance to the novel itself, perhaps they were specifcally mentioned in there somewhere, I am not sure. Listing them out, they would seem like bizarre choices given that it's supposed to be a fairly dark movie, but I thought they actually worked well in the film. "99 Luftballons" made me think, "What?" but even that one seemed to work within the feel of the movie.
