As with most new features in an EA game, they're overused the first year, and EA will tweek them in the next few years so they work right, but for now, I find that move a bit annoying.

I like the stick lift feature alot, it makes the game seem more realistic, no NHL player is going to watch you skate by with the puck if he can just smack your stick out of the way. You really have to use the body to protect the puck (much easier to do with the checking toned down) and make quicker passes.
