Or it could say that you have a terrible understanding of the world we live in. If the majority of the population in Harlem is lower income African American. Statistically speaking, of course there is a high probability that crimes commited there would be commited by a member of that population.
But you are aggregating the entire white American south into a catagory reflecting state of mind and personal beliefs. Show me the statistic that proves the majority of white southerners were 'racists' in that era?
Maybe it's just me, but making generalizations about people is the worst way to view the world...and the first step to prejudice. Being able to make generalizations about people is not something to be proud of. Having an intuitive sense about SOMEONE you might meet in person sure...but someone you have never met or an entire demographic population? That's how racism and prejudice begins.
