Should we celebrate his archaic stance on contraceptives while Africa dies of AIDS?

Should we celebrate his call for western democracies to open their vaults for the poor of the world while he sits on tens of billions of dollars in assets?

Should we celebrate the continued stance that says women are second tier citizens within the Catholic Church?

He was an important figure of the 20th century and did a lot of good . . . . but he departs this earth with some ugly stuff hanging off his shoulders as well.

Measure the whole package.

Hopefully, his successor will be more liberal and willing to bring the Church forward to meet the realities of the 21st century.
