Default Random question - HMS Host

Okay, this has been driving me nuts and since I've been unable to figure it out, I thought I'd pose the question to the CP community.

I travel quite a bit for work and when I dine at HMS Host-owned restaurants or bars at airports, no matter what airport it is, the server always puts a little tear in the side of my receipt before handing it to me.

I've asked them why they do this (not in an irritated way, just curious) and they say "Company policy." It's driving me nuts. Not that they tear the receipt, but that I can't figure out what purpose it would serve. What kind of a company policy is this? It's my copy! Why do they do it?! Anyone here work for HMS Host or know the answer to this mystery?
