It made me feel really safe. We've basically instituted a policy at our condo "don't leave anything in your car". Also, many residents either a) leave their doors unlocked or b) leave their doors unlocked and their windows rolled down.

In South Africa everyone just leaves their glove compartment, change compartment, everything open inside the car with the doors locked so thieves can look in and plainly see the vehicle is not worth breaking into. Leaving the car unlocked, I guess that is more like an invitation to get your car stolen.
