Come on now guys, the only reason why club districts failed in calgary is because the city was not wise enough to set up police patrols on the street to monitor the area. They are and always have been too busy trying to reap the rewards of traffic violations. It is only now the chief of police has been smart enough to make a change. He has mandated increased patrols of cops near clubs, just sitting in the car watching, which has helped.
Calgary police force has always been a wait and react first with respect to club areas. Wait till something happens, then send the force, whereas the proper way is to have a presence on the street, to deter.
This is something every city does which has club areas. Every major city usually has a club district, (Toronto - Richmond club dist, Montreal - Saint Laurent, Van - Granville, etc) and we in Calgary should be no different. Club districts can work and be successful as long as we have a police presence on the street. You will always see a police car/presence just sitting on the club district street in the other cities.
Some say it doesnt add to culture in the city, well clubs have a different demographic than a lounge and there is always a market for both. So to say that the only kind of establishment needed is a fine dining/lounge is being small minded. Just because some of us dont frequent clubs on a regular basis, doesnt mean there is not a need for it. I dont frequent clubs like i used to when I was 20, but nonetheless there are tons of people that do.
If you dont like clubs, dont go. Pretty simple. The reality is, they are always going to be wanted and needed in any city. It does add to a vibrant core, as there are usually people still on the streets when going from establishment to establishment. Heck, strip clubs dont add much to society either, but will always be needed and wanted. Not everything in our world needs to add to society, try letting loose and having some fun or not get angry or opinionated when others want to party at clubs, etc.
Enough with the meathead stuff though, just because someone is a jock/bully/popular in high school doesnt equate to him being at blockbuster now. That is just narrow minded. Why worry bout what happened in high school? Sounds like some unresovled issues to me.
