I understand that teams need to show up and play 60 minutes. If they prepare better, than maybe they're not down 45-0 at the end of the third quarter. But one week a team will keep trying to fight back late in the game and a key piece will suffer a needless injury.

That's a risk that you have to take. But when a team is beating say... Miami... by 35 in the 3rd quarter, I dont want to see scrubs in there on mop up duty and see a bunch of punts. If the game isnt going to be close, go for the jugular. Score so many points that the other team doesnt want to play football anymore.
That's the most entertainment you can get from a blowout.
