Default Creative Parenting or Child Abuse?

Saw this video in another forum.

This kid is going to need a whole bunch of therapy and will probably hate his Mother forever...

That is awful. Putting a kid into a cold shower and yelling at them as a form of punishment? Making them put hot sauce in their mouth and hold it there? If these are the things that are on video what goes on there that isn't documented.

What did she say to Dr.Phil to justify her actions?

I hope someone from the audience $hitkicks her after the show

What a friggin' ugly woman. I was hoping the entire time that he would spit that crap into her eyes.

How incredibly awful for that poor child. I want to rescue him.

And what the crap does pulling a stupid card mean?

I had to stop watching that once she started screaming at him in the shower, and this is coming from someone who's had worse than that.

While I'm all for memorable and creative punishments to fit the nature of the "crime", this is ridiculous. The kid can't be more then 4 or 5. You want an effective punishment for lying? Clean out their toy room/bedroom and make them earn their stuff back one at a time by actually behaving themselves. Didn't take my 4 year old long to figure out that if you lie or misbehave, you will be missing your favorite teddy bears or toys real quick.

And hot sauce? Does she realize that some peppers can be potentially fatal to children as most hot peppers are already poisionious to a degree, we just have lesser effects to it as adults.

Dr. Phil makes money off this kind of TV. I'm not surprised.

That's sickening. Must be the only time I've actually wanted to hear what Dr. Phil had to say. Just noticed that title, that she's a mormon and the kid is adopted. Poor kid.

Child services should take away her kid. There's no justification for making you child swallow hot sauce. I'd love to pour a bottle of hot sauce down her throat!

Exactly ... I'm not saying parenting is easy, but coming up with something that is devastating to them without being harmful isn't terribly difficult. There's no need to be creative here because the solution isn't much of a head-scratcher

While the hot sauce doesn't seem to be much worse then the old school soap in your mouth, the cold shower is insane. Although it looks like she pours a ton in his mouth so thats pretty disgusting....

What a terrible person.

I remember getting my mouth washed out with soap a few times growing up.

But any of my punishments were usually quick and you learned your lesson.

What that mother is doing is really really wrong.

That's disturbing. She's going to get some serious backlash from this.

Child abuse, plain and simple. She is using physical pain to punish a 6 year old. And not just the relatively minor pain of a quick spank on the rear either.

What sort of mental issues does a person need to have to convince themselves that this would be OK?
