Happy with the mayoral results, but was hoping for more change on the Alderman side

A real disappointment that almost all the incumbents got re-elected. Having aldermanic change is more important than mayoral change, IMHO.

Big win for Nenshi, but still too many incumbents if you ask me. Majority of the "broken" council returns to the job.
I think Druh and Pincott needed to lose, which would have brought a better balance of old and new to the council.
Sadly, business as usualy will continue. Epic fail for the city

That is going to be the real test for Nenshi. Can the guy actually command respect and move forward with this council? We'll see what happens, i'm just glad Bronco is gone......

They need to stop indicating on the ballot who the incumbent is. That's an unfair advantage.

6 new faces out of 15 is a pretty healthy amount of turnover.
And I'm glad the arty chick is hanging around.

Really dissapointed that Farrell, Lowe and Hodges got back in, thats a big let down.
Especially Lowe who's an arrogant a%%, and incompatent, and Hodges who's a yellow bellied coward.

There were a 3 decent good candidates in ward 1 taking on Hodges that split the vote. I am disappointed that he won, he's useless.

I think Hodges is there just to regale the other members on life before electricity.

At least my guy won in 12, 50% success on the night..
Still shocked Farrell clawed back to win, it looked promising for a while last night.

Not sure what she did to stay elected so long. She was our alderman for years, absolutely useless.

Druh Farrell is a clown. I sat in on one a Subdivision Appeal Board Meeting, and she has the most non-sensible arguments to prove her point. The bridge issue and Memorial closing for 'party street' were a long time coming for her. When i went, she told some poor guy to put 16 12-foot trees in his backyard because he had a bigger extension on his deck. Her reasoning: Because they looked pretty. When the other council members began to question it, she than added "Oh, and because your neighbours have a right to privacy". Stupid... Stupid... cow
Other than that though, I'm happy with Nenshi winning. I think he'll treat his position as if running a business. He's not too left or right wing.

Don't blame me. I voted against Lowe in my ward. I didn't even know what the Italian guy's platform was (don't remember his name, Joe something). I just voted for him because I wanted as less incumbents back as possible.

I'm glad my incumbent was re-elected. The previous one was really bad.
And I think any of the candidates would have made a good mayor. Each has different strengths and a compelling case could be made for any of them.
In the end I think that is why there was such a large turnout. If change was the goal then there would have been more incumbents looking for work. Many different people saw someone who they believed could do the job, and so they were compelled to go out and vote.
So kudos to all the candidates for giving Calgary an honest choice.

There's new faces because aldermen retired or ran for mayor.
Druh Farrell arty? LOL. I guess you've never dealt with her. She's at best a rich ditz, at worst a total nightmare to work with.

I wasn't loving the choices available in Ward 2. Avermenko lost my vote by being in favour of traffic calming, which is kind of like hitting yourself on the thumb with a hammer and saying, "well, at least I don't feel my toothache any more." Fix the actual problem.
Magliocca lost my vote with the following sentence, "By giving seniors a monetary tax benefit for snow shovelling, lawn care and general home maintenance, we can help assist them with day-to-day chores. "
Really? When is enough, enough? We already have income tax credits for being old, CPP, old age security, the guaranteed income supplement, the property tax rebates, and a 97% discount on transit passes, as well as discounts on many other services (pools, etc). At some point, there has to be a line, where people who have managed to not die for a long time are getting enough benefits.
My last sentence may sound harsh, but otherwise, why not just raise taxes to 95%, and divide all the money up amongst the elderly? You can boil a frog if you heat the water up slowly.
The third candidate didn't have any relevant platform or experience, so Lowe was the choice, if only based on his benign non-campaign.

Yeah, this guy's caused more damage than Bronco, IMHO.
Him and Nenshi will get along swimmingly

I was hoping for more change at the aldermanic level. For all of the moaning about the dysfunctional city council at "silly hall", Calgarians sure voted with complacency for their aldermen. Sure, voters made a statement with the mayoral vote, but really maintained the status quo otherwise. There are times to vote strategically, and I did my part by trying to oust Hodges.
