Calgary Civic Election Poll #1: Who do you support for Mayor?
Now that it seems most if not all the candidates are declared and there is information now out there about each, I thought it would be interesting to see where initial support lies. Towards the end of the summer maybe we could do a second poll to see how things evolve as people drop out or as people become more familiar with candidates. Then a third maybe a couple of weeks before the October 18th election.
Question: If anyone, who do you support for Mayor of Calgary?
As of now, this is the list of candidates:
- Bob Hawksworth
- Joe Connelly
- Craig Burrows
- Naheed Nenshi
- Jon Lord
- Ric McIver
- Paul Hughes
- Kent Hehr
- Wayne Stewart
- Alnoor Kassam
Can anyone say sausage party?
Poll is anonymous, but feel free to express who you support/don't support and why.

Really don't see a lot of appealing candidates. Nenshi, Hehr, and McIver are probably the favourites. Not really a fan of any of them, especially that ______ Burrows

Much like I do when I vote in federal elections for the Marxist / Leninist Party of Canada, I'll probably throw my vote away by blindfolding myself and pinning the tale on the donkey. The only problem is mosts candidates on that list would fall somewhere tight within the arse area.

off a cliff?
I'll be between Nenshi and Hehr, assuming they remain the only 2 viable candidates.

Whoever has a platform based on raising speed limits, legalizing hookers and blow, and providing free extension cords for all will get my vote.

Which mayor is not going to spend any of my tax dollers wastefully and will actually apply common sense to decisions in city hall... never mind...

For the most part there have not been any platform announcements which makes it a bit hard to pick. I browsed through all their sites for some lunch time reading and learned almost nothing that I didn't already know.
There are some candidates who I would definitely not vote for regardless of the platform. (Burrows being one), so I suppose that is something.

As for platforms I know of at least three that have something:
-Nenshi has his "ABC" plan
-McIver has his "CAT" plan
-Stewart will bid on the Winter Olympics
So this election will be a lot of alphabet soup!

The thing is that major policy initiatives at this point are almost pointless. They get buried in the news and forgotten about until September for the most part.

We may want to burn this city if McIver becomes mayor.
Also, what's a guy gotta do around here to get a Poll created? I swear I've tried everything.

Its going to be great, no more Bronco. I think I'm the only admitted McIver fan around here.
I requested one for you.

I don't think he'll cut down on infrastructure. Also services are highly inefficient in this city. I'd like to see him reorganize the city departments with a greater emphasis on cost efficiency.

I don't think that he'll cut down on infrastructure per se, I just don't think that he'll build anything new. I think that there is a lot that needs doing in the city and his voting no on everything is hardly the path to get it done!
