Report: Israel storms Gaza-bound aid ships
At least 10 people are dead and dozens are wounded after Israeli commandos stormed a flotilla of six ships trying to deliver aid to Gaza. Local media reports suggest the death toll may have reached 19.
...
The pre-dawn raid happened more than 60 kilometres out to sea in international waters and the two sides are offering conflicting accounts of what happened on the ships.
...
Israeli Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Danny Ayalon said Israel regrets the loss of life, but he called the moves from the flotilla "premeditated" and an "outrageous provocation."
"The organizers are well known for their ties to global jihad, al-Qaeda and Hamas," he said.
"On board the ship, we found weapons prepared in advance and used against our forces."
...
The aid flotilla was organized in part by the Free Gaza Movement, an international group of pro-Palestinian activists that claims the Gaza blockade is unjust and a violation of international law.
Audrey Bomse, a spokesperson for the Free Gaza Movement, told the BBC the passengers were "not going to pose any violent resistance" and that there was "absolutely no evidence of live fire."
Ayalon said Israel offered to deliver the aid supplies through the "appropriate" channels, and did "everything" it could to avoid a violent outcome.

Don't think its good, but I want to know more about the weapons in place. If this was truly an aid shipment, why were there weapons of any type on board.
Lets not get carried away with condemnations yet.
I want to know what the 5 IDF boarders were injured with as well.

Weird events surrounding this. Israeli commandos storm the ship and meet stiff resistance from humanitarian workers? A couple parts of this story still need to be told.

Audrey Bomse and her ilk grind my gears. Yeah - an unprovoked attack upon civilians. I assume it was the usual "aid" convoy to Gaza - fuel, food, hospital supplies... and a few dozen AK-47's, RPGs and grenades thrown in for good measure.

I like how CBC quotes local media reports. Pallywood at its finest maybe?
The ships were filled with AID - guns to aid in the attack against Isreal, I mean there were no guns in the ships, none whatsoever.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here. There are no confirmed reports of weapons being on those ships.
I would also find it HIGHLY unlikely that weapons made their way onto the ships as they were from Turkey. Turkey has no reason to inflame relations with Israel at this juncture.

Yeah...he is not going to his second stop however....
Netanyahu, who began a two-day official visit to Canada on Sunday, is now expected to cut short his visit and leave after his meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper, forgoing a planned joint news conference and a gala dinner.
He has also cancelled a Tuesday meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington, officials said.

If there were weapons on the ship, Israel would have no choice.

Like blowing it up?
What if the people were shooting back? There is a lot the article doesn't mention, outside of just trying to blame Israel again.

This is interesting:
Free Gaza Movement Web Site I think - http://www.freegaza.org/
Witness Gaza - Freedom Flotilla - about their trip and now i.e. the incident?
http://witnessgaza.com/
Also twitter web site? http://twitter.com/freegazaorg
Just a quick google search for this stuff, not sure as per authenticity.

Well relations between Washington and Israel are not normal right now, especially after the slight by Obama a few months ago, I doubt that Netanyahu wants to face Obama over this.

Quote:
… (Mr. Obama) immediately presented Mr Netanyahu with a list of 13 demands designed both to the end the feud with his administration and to build Palestinian confidence ahead of the resumption of peace talks. Key among those demands was a previously-made call to halt all new settlement construction in east Jerusalem.
When the Israeli prime minister stalled, Mr Obama rose from his seat declaring: “I’m going to the residential wing to have dinner with Michelle and the girls.” As he left, Mr Netanyahu was told to consider the error of his ways. “I’m still around,” Mr Obama is quoted by Israel’s Yediot Ahronot newspaper as having said. “Let me know if there is anything new.”

Couldnt they have blockaded the ship? Considering how often we hear of IDF using excessive force I don't know that they've earned the benefit of the doubt.

Fair enough, what would be your solution to stop a boat and prevent the evidence from going overboard and then not being able to prove to the international community why you seized the boat in the first place.
Pardon the pun but I assume they would want the "smoking gun"

What are they doing storming a boat in international waters to begin with? I didnt realize they had jurisdiction outside their marine borders.
