Default Geocaching?

This guy at work has been raving about his hobby of geocaching - does anyone on CP do it?

If you havent, you should! Its lots of fun.

Here are a couple of sites to get you going...
www.geocaching.com
http://www.calgarycachers.ca/

If you are interested, I have a Garmin GPS unit for sale.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

My girlfriend and I do it - make a point of doing a cache or two every city we visit!

Cheers for the sites.
What's the model of GPS unit you have? Would it be a good unit to get started?
Do you just input the co-ords into the unit and then follow it like a compass?

If you have an iPhone you can get a caching app for it as well - pull up the geocaching website, pick the cache and then it pulls it up using the iPhone GPS - very handy.

Last year I stumbled upon a ceocache location when I was walking the dog. I looked down and noticed this box. I was intrigued and opened it. Cool concept. We left something small but didn't take anything in return.

It makes a boring hike interesting. I have only done it in the mountains, never in the city. Not passionate about it, but it can lead you on a adventure.

I thought it sounded pretty cool, so went out and bought a GPS a month or two ago. I went out and found all the ones in walking distance from my house.

I haven't been out recently, my life has been otherwise occupied. But I hope to pick it up a bit more come summer.

Recently a guy got lost up on Mt. Hood and was lucky enough to stumble on a geocache and was able to call someone and tell the rescue crew exactly where he was. Not only a fun hobby, but it can actually save lives.

I've never done it, mostly because I don't really believe that a GPS is a substitute for a good paper map. But that doesn't mean they're not useful for some things, like geocaching.

I love Geocaching. Do it all over PEI and have been doing it here in Toronto.

A great hobby. The caches are generally in really cool spots, too, and you find yourself visiting places you never would have before or even knew existed locally.

Treasure hunts are ALWAYS cool.

My kids love going to the old Chumash Indian trails and hike in our local mountains and go geocaching. I really had no idea how popular this activity is and that you could do it in pretty much every city. A friend did it in Hawaii and ended up with a cool bracelet from a box in a library in Maui.

This.

I don't cache regularly, but I have gone with my stepdad a couple of times. Seen some great scenery and been to some cool places I never would have been to otherwise! My stepdad just loves it though.

My geocaching experience started, and then ended, when I was dodging dirty needles along the riverbank near Eau Claire...not the pastime for me.

Yeah, for sure...I guess it can serve as a warning for newbie geocacher's to make sure you're aware of your surroundings when rooting around looking for junk in a box

I assume you are making a joke.

But if you are not. Don't form your opinion on one inner-city geocache site when there are thousands of incredible locations outside of the cities. lol
