Default Anyone have TELUS TV?

I switched from Shaw to Telus last week and really like Telus a lot better than Shaw, but only problem is that it freezes every now and then.

Does this happen to anyone else? I got them to come in on Thursday and they replaced some wires but it's still freezing.

Anyone had this problem and know some fixes?

I know my parents have it, and I've never heard of any such issues nor experienced them myself when I ever I visit (they'e had it since it first came out).

My neighbours have it- and yes I find it freezes and there are a lot of digital artifacts.

It's better than it was a few years ago, but still not as good as Shaw or Bell.

I really dislike Shaw because it takes like 1.5 seconds when you are changing between channels(digital) seems really slow and unresponsive to me. With Telus it only take about .3 seconds so I guess I have to deal with it.

They gave me a cord that I could use and they said it would gaurantee it wouldn't freeze but it would need to run on my walls and be visible so thats not a option.

I have had Telus TV since it was in the testing stage and experienced it freezing up off and on during the whole time. Anything from a quick blip where the show pauses for a second to pressing "Guide" or a channel number and five minutes later the guide or channel switching over.

The first few times it did this Telus came by and installed a better router and switch and that seemed to fix the problem for a long time. It would freeze up occasionally, but usually at a late night hour where they do testing and software downloads.

The past few weeks, it started happening more frequently (to the point I was resetting the box 2-3x a day) and when I called about it they offered the upgrade to the Telus Anywhere PVR box for no charge and since its been installed, I have yet to have a freezing problem with it. I guess this new box has a faster internet connection which I was told is the reason why it doesn't freeze because a slow connect is what causes the picture or response to be slow.

How bad was Shaw for you that your screen freezing up is better?

I mentioned in another post that Shaw is too slow when I'm switching channels. Shaw takes about 1.5 seconds and Telus about .3.

Shaw just really annoys me with how slow and unresponsive it is. Other than Telus freezing it really is miles ahead of Shaw.

Telus told me they installed the newest technology in my house so I'm not sure that's the problem. Them changing the cords might have helped a little bit because before I would have to reset when it freezes, but now it comes back in about 5 seconds.

*shrug* To each his own.

I change channels... about once an hour. Actually I never change channels because I use my PVR. The day I have to get up and reset my Shaw box because it is freezing on me multiple times a day, I don't care how much I paid for the thing I am throwing it out the window and going with someone who can provide me with annoyance free TV.

That's just me though.

I understand that Shaw isn't the leader in all things. You can set your Bell PVR with your phone. Comcast in the US has a crazy good On Demand service that Shaw's doesn't even touch.

What do you think is better about Telus TV? Since I have never used it, maybe I am not understanding how good the product is. Is it more HD channels? Better picture? Fancy box with sexy remote control? Easy access to porn on demand? More storage on the PVR? Free PVR with contract?

I heard God kills a kitten every time someone hooks up Telus TV.

I've been thinking about changing to Telus on price alone- God damn shaw is pricey! $115/mo for Internet and HD TV... feels like robbery!

Not to mention, I was annoyed that absolutely NO sports channels were on Shaw's basic HD package... I don't buy HD to watch anything other than sports... but of course you have to buy the basic WITH the sports... you can't JUST buy sports...

@puckluck - What are you paying for telus?

The picture seems the same to me. The remote control is 100 times better than Shaw. Shaw's remote is the most useless remote I have ever used. The PVR just seems like lightspeeds faster than Shaw's.

This is just my opinion of course. I flip through channels often and Shaw made me want to pull my hair out on how slow it was. I can deal with it freezing once a day, but what really annoys me is waiting a second or two between channels with Shaw.

You also get a free PVR with a contract, but that has nothing to do with how satisfied I am with it overall. I'd probably give Telus TV a A- and Shaw a C.

The price was actually pretty similiar. Telus is slightly cheaper at about 55 dollars and I have Internet and phone with them. All together it costs me about 140 dollars with a long distance plan too.

So it seems that other than changing channels, the remote is your only real issue. This part is confusing to me, so please clarify.

What features does the Telus remote have that the Shaw one doesn't? I own a Harmony 880 (I think thats the model) remote and I can program my Shaw remote to do 100% of everything that it can do in regards to my PVR, DVD and TV.

Are you saying the Telus remote is actually better than the ones Harmony sells? Or did you just never set up the Shaw one to do the things it could do?

The PVR is faster. The remote( I dont know which model it was) sucked and I had it programmed to control my TV, DVD and It was very unresponsive. I would have to re-program it about once every 2 weeks. The 2 seconds between channels is what made me switch to Telus.

Every facet of Telus is equal or better than Shaw except for the freezing part. For Shaw on demand it would take like a minute to show up what I can order and with Telus It's instantanious.

And again, like I said, this is my opinion.

Makes sense.

I still wouldn't put up with needing to hard reset my box for it, but if they can fix it...

Regarding the channel-changing thing... are you changing channels "directly" (for lack for a better term), or using the guide? My sister-in-law changes channels using the channel +/- buttons. So for each click it takes a second while it tunes the channel. She'll do this even if she's just flipping.

Myself, on the other hand, I'll use the guide. That's what I thought that most people do. I just browse the guide for a few minutes and pow - hit OK and I'm watching something else.

I'll admit that Shaw is slow while "flipping", but I didn't think that anyone did that anymore. Except my sister-in-law.

Until Telus offers to give free Boxes in replacement for the existing competitors product I can not imagine why a person would switch.

From what I have seen there is no reason to switch to Telus (price or quality of product). Their product is inferior to Shaw at this point. Telus however is getting better.

For example if I had a Shaw PVR, I would want a free Telus PVR.

No I'm switching channels like you're sister in law, I guess we're old school lol, but I hate using the guide.

Telus does offer a free PVR with a contract. I guess they offer it with a contract because they know it occasionally freezes and they don't want people cancelling on them.

I can't see how people can like Shaw more than Telus if you've tried both but to each their own i guess.
