Who knows.... maybe the next thing that will happen is that men will have equal rights when it comes to custody of the children..... instead of having the children go to the mother most of the time.

Parents have no rights. They have duties. Children have rights. More and more children live in shared parenting arrangements, or primarily with the father.

I hope it's changing as troutman says it is. A guy I work with has been screwed over so bad he pays alimony to kids he hasn't seen in 8 years. He just doesn't have the money to fight it. He just gave up and lost their teen years forever. I don't know if I could do that.

Hell yah! women have been screaming for equality forever, sorry ladies equality means in everything.

Just because you get married you shouldn't be entitled to everything. Coming from a divorce because of a change of heart a year and a half later I was royally pissed that my ex came into the marriage with nothing and left with half. I even told here, signing the papers, that this was the best business deal she will ever make.

I see this from a tax (financial) perspective and have found that men get the royal screw. Now, obviously this is a limited perspective, but the basic jist of it is that often they pay exorbitant sums of money that never actually manages to trickle it's way down to the kids in the way they'd like.

I have never encountered a woman who pays alimony but I only do about 1000 tax returns a year.

I have seen amounts and agreements that range from a decent monthly supplement to jaw dropping, ass rammingly outrageous. Speaking both Financially as well as in terms of custody or visiting rights.

I've met many payers who profess that they would willingly double the amount they pay were they allowed some rights to see their children or determine where and in what capacity the money is spent. Obviously not an option and probably a degree of false nobility in there as well, but I believe about half of them.

Also, the concept of an amicable divorce is something that I have never seen in practice. As much as TV would like us to believe I havent seen a single ended marriage that doesnt carry some degree of hurt and outright hate.

I fully support the concept of child maintenance.

Alimony (either direction) is a joke.

Yeah, what's good for the goose and all that... I agree. If men can do pay it, so can women.

But that guy sure came off as a loser when he said "I need that money for investments".

Buy your own "investments", ya clown.

And this may come across as sexist, but a 52-year-old woman soaking her ex-husband has a special name, but just doesn't seem nearly as pathetic as a 52-year-old man leeching like that.

I paid 800 bucks a month in child support for my daughter who spent more time living with me than at my ex's, still money well spent to not have to deal with the woman.

Its the same as the old saying about hookers, you pay for them to leave.

I think alimony should be abolished.

However, I have no problem with ex-husbands asking for alimony.

Just ask anyone on the Liberal Party...You're entitled to your entitlements!

As for the ex-wives who have to pay....well ladies...

I guess you picked the wrong man.

But don't worry...not all men are like that!

Lets just be friends!
