It's my girlfriend's birthday on the 18th which works nicely for a surprise trip to Banff for the weekend. But my budget can support about $100 max/night for a room.

I've been browsing at a few places, and the Banff Inn: http://www.banffinn.com/ has $99 rooms and looks to be nice inside and out.

Has anyone ever stayed at this place, or any other favourites around that price that I should look into? I've never stayed in Banff before.(moved to Calgary in 2003)

Thanks for the help!!

The Rimrock & Banff Springs are the best - need more cash than the $100 though.

re: Rimrock & Banff Springs

You can try asking for the "friends and family rate". I've had that work a time or two for $99/night when they weren't sold out.

Also check out the Royal Canadian or the Banff International. Both are very nice.

Yup. Or ask if there are any conferences going on, and if there is hang up and call back an hour later. Tell them you're with *insert conference name* and book a room for the weekend, at the conference rate (usually $99/night).

They serve free OJ and Perrier in the front hallway, so if you get caught at least you got a free drink out of it....

Douglas Fir Resort is nice, Banff Ptarmigan Inn is also really nice - both are reasonable pricewise. If you're an AMA member go to www.ama.ab.ca and check out their Mountain Getaway Specials, they have some really good deals at time...

So that's why Fairmont Resorts raised all the Friends & Family rates for us... :darnkids:

Now, I can't stay in a $399 room at the Banff Springs for $99 anymore.

I'm not sure what your work situation is but if you work for a big company ask if they give a corporate rate. I use it whenever I get hotel rooms (business or not) and it usually works. Granted I work for a pretty big corporation but so might you. PS, it's kinda hard to fake this one, because they usually ask for proof that you work there (business card, or something). Good luck.

Are you going skiing?

Fairmont has a limited $199/night package that includes room AND 2 ski passes. Makes it only $80 a night which is a FAR cry from the ~$400 rack rate.

My favorite for cheap stays is Inns of Banff though. HUGE rooms, great rates, AWESOME outdoor hot tub, and good indoor pool stuff too.

The king rooms sometimes smell like they may have been smoking rooms decades ago but it is not that bad (I am VERY sensitive to cig smoke, so trust me, not that bad) and the layout of the buildings is odd, but worth every penny of the ~$100/night you can usually haggle out with them.

www.innsofbanff.com

Oh, and there breakfast deals are silly, try to get JUST the room if possible!

I like the Hostel, myself. . Maybe not such a good idea for the girlfriend thing, though...even if she's down with it, privacy's not really much of an option. . Oh the joys of a student budget.

Really for anyone going by themselves or with a group of friends, though, hostels rock!!! Cheap, and you get to meet all sorts of interesting people.

Or, if you don't mind the drive go to Panorama. They have a ski n stay deal right now that is 2 nights accomodation, and a 3 day lift pass for $99 each.

Check it out HERE

I do it once or twice a year, and it's pretty cheap if you try to avoid eating on mountain.

WHy dont you check out the approved home accomodation listings in Banff, you'll surely get your own room for under a $100. You MAY have to share a bathroom or tv room....no big deal usually, some have a private bath/tv though too.

I help my mom with hers in Jasper during the summer, and they aren't dirty or sketchy...it's a cheaper option.

Are you an AMA member? $100 can go a long way when you book thru them.

List of hotels in Banff

Personally I recommend Charlton Cedar Court, the Loft Suite is pretty decent for the price. High Country Inn is pretty good too, breakfast included (get the Honeymoon suite), Royal Canadian Lodge and Rimrock are swell but likely out of your budget, Banff Springs is overrated, spend your $$ elsewhere. Trust me I've stayed in 95% of the hotels in Banff, it's like my second home. Have you thought about what to do there yet? Check out horseback riding it's really fun, ride the Gondola too, there's one each in Banff, Lake Louise, and Golden BC at the Kicking Horse resort, the restaurant is great at the top if you have time to go to Golden for a day-trip. The Brewster Gondola in Banff is ok for what it is but nothing spectacular. The Lake Louise one is alright too.

Visit www.destina.ca
Right now on the front page under Hotel Deals they have weekend nights in Banff for $112 or Canmore for $75.

Unfortunately not an AMA member...

The High Country Inn looks good at around $100....I think Cedar Charlton is like $130-ish.

Gondola rides sound good!

If you don't mind driving for about 5 minutes, stay in Canmore. My wife and I did that and found it to be quite a bit cheaper. We paid something like $50/nite less for a better room by staying in Canmore.
