Is it safe to eat this?
Here is a great site that answers all those CP threads from the past. It uses a database of food shelf life for just about any type of mainstream food.

Here is one that always gets me:
Salsa, commercially packaged, opened, refrigerated - 5 to 7 days

I have strong experimental evidence that proves that it is perfectly to safe to eat Salsa many months after opening it.

I wonder if the 27 year old bottle of MSG in my pantry is still good...

If bacon is good for 6 weeks ocording to the best before date, why is it only good for 3-4 days after it's cooked?
Same thing with fresh beef, why would it good bad cooked, before the best before date raw?

The best before date is assuming an unopened package. As soon as you open the package, things change.
But also keep in mind that that site doesn't say how long until food goes bad, it says how long will it taste its best.

If there is no green/grey mold, and no weird smell, it's good enough to eat...

I had some salsa that I'm not sure how long was in the fridge for, and it tasted like acid. I was afraid that if I spilled some on the counter, it might burn through.

Yeah, I also had some that started to foam. I guess it started to ferment or something. So good point... there is a limit to salsa I guess.

I didn't see an entry for a Darryl Sutter hockey team, anyone have any ideas of how good that is after it's expiration date?

So be very careful
In the dangerous kitchen
When the night time has fallen,
And the roaches are crawlin'
In the kitchen of danger
You can feel like a stranger
The bananas are black
They got flies in the back
And also the chicken
In the dish with the foil
Where the cream is all clabbered
And the salad is frightful
Your return in the evening
Can be less than delightful
You must walk very careful
You must not lean against it
It can get on your clothing
It can follow you in
As you walk to the bedroom
And you take all your clothes off
While you're sleeping
It crawls off
It gets in your bed
It could get on your face then
It could eat your complexion
You could die from the danger
Of the dangerous kitchen

I remember having a jar of old el paso taco sauce in my fridge for a couple of months and the damn thing grew the freakiest looking mushroom inside of it. Gross and cool at the same time analyzing that thing.
