ESPN is too dry and stuffy. Very corporate feel to their shows and everything they say is run by an image-management department.
Fox is a little more silly and informal, even if the actual coverage/analysis are worse at times - sports are so over-analyzed I don't mind that they have fun with it.
Plus I've heard Florio from PFT on Fox.
Doesn't really matter at the end of the day, just background noise when I'm driving, but I hate everything ESPN.

That sucks. Fox really grew on me. JT the Brick wasn't too bad either.

I was talking about the "feel" of their broadcasts. I do not attend nor do I have proof of any image-management meetings.
edit: their handling of the Rothelesberger rape accusation is an example of how their on-air personalities / opinions are driven by a corporate philosophy.
link:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/colum...don&id=4405442
tl;dr - They didn't cover (didn't even acknowledge) an accused rape of an athlete that was going to be on their network soon (ABC's Shaq show) or the hotel property they have ties to. This after they were all over any comparable case that they didn't have "interest" in.
Other examples:
-multiple columnists deriding Jay Glazer for calling Favre's re-unretirement shortly before it came (after predicting the same thing earlier)
-too many cases to mention where Mort or Clayton claimed to have broken a story that they didn't break
-Obvious conflict of interest of consistently having active athletes contribute content (imagine the reaction if Fox News had Karl Rove do a special report on the President)
-that's all I've got for now.

I hated Fox.
Every show was just "let's take calls from people and when we're not taking calls we will talk about useless crap that has nothing to do with sports, and we will SHOUT IT OUT LOUD over the air!"
Late night weekends were just replays of the week - the EXACT SAME SHOW each night.
I'm not the biggest Bob V fan, but I preferred his show over the Fox garbage.
Good riddance Fox.

Thank goodness, Fox was terrible. I couldn't believe how low-quality their broadcasts were.

What do any of these have to do with management telling what their hosts what to say. The Roethlisberger thing, I agree was pretty stupid. But when I listen to ESPN and I do pretty much everyday, I never get the impression that these hosts are holding back because they were told to.

It's a unscrupulous corporate philosophy of building an exclusive media empire.
Building the "worldwide leader" brand is all fine and good, I'd run ESPN the same way if I were in charge, but combining that philosophy with dishonest tactics (such as I listed above) really ticks me off.

Actually Jim Rome said almost as much on his radio show. He said ESPN had a blanket policy and told all of their personalities not to discuss it on air.

Van isn't disputing the Rothlesberger incident, just downplaying it.

Thank God. FOX was a joke. It seemed that every other segment the guys on FOX would have a yelling match just to see who could be more billigerent. Doesn't matter if the talk is sports related or if the commentary and opinions were valid or not, they just had to scream them really loud.
I wish they could have local guys on all day.

Must have had a fair amount of backlash to make them fork over the money to go back to ESPN. Didn't ESPN jack their rates in the first place hence the switch?

Or ESPN backed off their cash grab.
Any posters/moderators/mexicans at liberty to clarify?
