Does Dude Look Like a Lady?
Well, no she (he? it?) doesn't look like a lady, so...
Quote:
BERLIN -- South Africa's track and field federation had been asked to conduct a gender test on an 800-metre runner amid concerns she does not meet the requirements to compete as a woman.
|
So, you're thinking she was a he who went through a few surgeries and is now a she? Not necessarily:
Quote:
"If there's a problem and it turns out that there's been a fraud ... that someone has changed sex, then obviously it would be much easier to strip results," Davies added. "However, if it's a natural thing and the athlete has always thought she's a woman or been a woman, it's not exactly cheating."
|
Weird story. If it is just a dude post sex change, that is dedication to your sport. Also, if that's the case and he/she doesn't win this thing, well....that's pretty sad.

What about her makes people doubt her gender? Is it just the musculature? Isn't it a more likely explanation, like many many athletes she has been taking steroids (aka male hormones).

Maybe also skeletal structure as she doesn't appear to have hips.
*shrugs* Looking at the picture in the other thread, she looks like a man except for the lack of dangly bits.

It's not your skeleton that gives you hips. It's hormones that cause fat deposits. If a female were taking large amounts of male hormones and training to the point she had very little body fat, you would not expect her to have hips.
She doesn't look any more male to me than Serna/Venus.

Really? I had no idea. When I took anthro, that was never mentioned... just that they can tell what sex a human skeleton is based on hips. Not saying you're wrong at all, I just didn't know.

Actually, men and women have differently shaped pelvises, and thus bone structure does contribute to the appearance (or lack of appearance) of hips.
Edit: yeah, FireFly touched on it.

oh yeah, there are slight differences in the pelvis.... but you would actually need an x-ray of her skeleton to know that. But it's not like a females skeleton is going to have huge hips. The differences in the skeleton are related to child birth and not hips.

I 100% agree. I do feel bad for her if she actually is just a girl.
Just because I'm a nerd....

Yeah did a little more reading, you guys are right, bone structure plays a larger part in hip development than I though...my bad
Anyways,

Not the most feminine group, but she certainly takes it to another level.

I believe that there was a Columbian female weightlifter who failed a gender test back in the 80s or early 90s. She had a vagina, but after testing, was considered to a "male" hormonally.
And that picture of Steven Tyler looks more like Julia Roberts without makeup.

Another aspect to it is she's only 18 and heavy distance training can delay puberty and menstruation.

I think it's just that she's a really ugly woman. Her father and grandmother are vouching for her in the news today.
