JUst an indication that he is not worth anywhere near $5.5 M. Until he drops his demand to ~$2 M no one will sign him. Would not be to shocked to see him in a 2 year $4 M total with Colorado...

$2 mill per year is ridiculous. I'm sure he's thinking if Kovalev can fetch $5M, so can he.
What about a one year deal for $3M with the Flames?
I believe you will see Tanguay take a one year deal no matter where he goes unless a team overpays for him. He will take that year to get his stats back up and then sign a longer deal next summer.

He's not a player that can take a team on his back and deliver them to victory but he still is a pretty effective player if you surround him with other good players.
Yes he is soft but the league is full of soft players making a ton of cash.
He'll still get between $4.5 -$5million a year I bet.
I would guess he is trying to hold out for a deal like Cammalleri got but it isn't going to happen.
Montreal trades a #1 for him and now no interest from them or anyone else?
41 points in 50 games is strong and he lead the Habs in +/-.
Is he asking far too much?
Sutter always talks nothing but the best about our players. That's why his moves are so miraculous at times, hes got a hell of a poker face. I remember him saying that about #40, and me not believing him.

I am actually a Tanguay fan but I think there are a few reasons why he is unsigned:
1) Possibly asking for too much money.
2) Possibly asking for too much term.
3) Possibly wants to go to a cup contender but they have already filled their roster and/or cant afford him (Detroit, Calgary, Chicago, San Jose, etc.)
4) Possibly has too much of an ego and will not sign with any team unless he plays on the top line. Who still needs a top line LW? (Florida? - not a cup contender, Colorado? - not a cup contender, Philly? - Cant afford him, etc.)
He probably could have re-signed in Montreal but they figured they would give money to a younger Cammalleri. Bottom line is his agent or himself assesed his value way to high when free agency started and teams have already spend too much money so he ethier accepts less money or less term, sucks it up and plays on a teams 2nd line, or goes to a team that is rebuilding.... or wait for a massive KHL contract.
Edit: Another thing I would like to add is the Kovelev contract throws teams a complete curve ball when negotiating with Tanguay's agent. It will go something like this:
GM: "What kind of contract is Tanguay looking for?"
Agent: "Well Kovalev got 5 mill for 2 years, Tanguay is younger, has a cup ring, and plays on the PK so we are looking for 6 million for 4 years."
GM: *click*
Right now Tangs is asking too much, prolly 1-1.5M too much. But theres plenty of time for him to sign so why rush it? Im sure he and his agent have talked to teams. If he isnt signed by training camp, he will prolly lower his expectations a bit but not to 2M/per... come on.. hes still almost a point per game player. REgardless of how "soft" he is.
Hes prolly looking for 5.5 right now but will get atleast 4M at some point.

Wow, enough hate on this forum for the guy? He is close to a point per game player still and has very good passing skills.
Sure things went a little sour with his time here thanks to Keenan(wow surprise not...) but he is still a good player, hell even his 58 points playing with Conroy and Nolan was pretty darn respectable.
As was mentioned he had shoulder surgery and has had problems with his other shoulder as well. He and GMs are probably just playing it safe and waiting to see if everything is going to be top notch. He is the kind of player that would fit perfectly on our top line dishing pucks to Jokinen and Iginla but we can't afford him.

Lombardi has wanted a presence in front of the net for a while. He's tried twice before to get Smyth to LA. There were rumors of LA being interested in Tanguay but that kind of went against everything Lombardi has said he needs on the Wing. I'm not sure there were ever serious attempts by LA to sign Tanguay.
I like Tanguay too, he wasn't used properly under Keenan and actually scored quite a bit of goals for the Habs last year. Naturally he's more of playmaker than scorer, and his passing skills are awesome. He should fetch 4-5 mil somewhere
