Calgary - Canada's Most Cultured City and 2nd Smartest?
According to Macleans:
http://www.macleans.ca/canada/nation..._119793_119793
Better known for its raucous stampede than its theaters and museums, Calgary often finds its culture disparaged by other Canadians. Yet Calgarians, it turns out, are the most cultured people in the country. When you combine the percentage of households who spend money to attend museums with those who spend to attend the live performing arts, Calgary comes out on top, while Toronto and Montreal both languish way down the list.
Ottawa was found to be the smartest, and Calgary 2nd smartest; strange considering Rob Anders spends time in both cities.

I've read in the past that we have the most university degrees and Americans per capita in Canada.

rankings likely fluctuate based on his location. he must have been doing some rare work in his riding when the stats were analyzed

We'll we all know that Calgary's IQ is graded on the curve, because my massive intellect distorts the city's average.

Interesting article. I remember those lively debates about Calgary's culture and this report will certainly some more fuel into the fire. Interesting though, Edmonton likes to motto itself on it's abundant cultural activities and festivals. Calgary ranking higher than Edmonton will not go over so well here.
Go Calgary =)

So essentially the opposite effect to Bart's "Cone of Ignorance" on the Simpsons?

Spelling isn't a sign of poor intellect, its a sign of incredible lack of focus on one thing at a time.
Between creating a time machine, seducing hot chicks, winning money at the Vegas trivia pursuit table, who has time to check spelling.

As Andrew Jackson once said, "I can't respect a man who only has one way of spelling each word."

Don't let that stat fool you; Calgary might have the highest combined % of households attending museums, etc. but that's only because every single person pretty much owns a home here, no one shares houses anymore... so of course the results are going to be skewed.

Yeah, but I totally discount those "Public Administration" and Journalism degrees that many Ottawa residents have that contribute to their "smartness" rating. I'd take a geologist, an engineer, or an accountant in a battle of wits anyday of the week.

If by culture, you mean fancy expensive stuff rich oil execs pay for and not culture as in good free liberal arts and music and street culture... maybe.

Yeah, because engineers, geologists and accountants are so well known for their expansive knowledge on subjects not related to their field.
