Default Canker Sores: Removal/Prevention?

Not sure if anybody else around these parts has the really awesome ability to attain canker sores at the drop of a hat. Basically every time I bite my lip fairly hard I am guaranteed a brutal canker sore for the next 10 days. I assume this has something to do with my diet and or saliva, but in truth I'm just guessing.

Anybody have a remedy for these? I'm about ready to freak out over here.

Funny enough, I got this remedy from another thread on CP a while back. It really does work.

http://www.acankersorecure.com/cure-...ker-sores.html

Edit: I used to be just like you, but mine would last about 8 months at a time with one after the other.

Baking soda seems to take the sting out of them for me. Bloody painful sometimes they are, even touching them with my tounge aggravates them.

I got some a bottle of mouthwash stuff from my dentist once when I had a canker sore when I was at the dentist's.

Since then I always get another bottle when I go cause it worked well.

No idea what it was though.

I used to get them a lot when I was little. I found that gargling with hot water and salt helped a lot.

I used to get them all the time too. Then I switched to plain jane $0.49 tooth paste. Something in those fancy toothpastes doesn't agree with my mouth. Now I rarely get them.

i used to get them, stopped drinking so much pop and they were gone... but how i got rid of them was i used an anti- acid powder ie ENO that you mix with water to drink when you have heartburn..... take the powder and using your finger hold it on the sore, BTW this hurts like freaking hell, for as long as you can, i usually do it twice for 5 min, it'll be gone . I use to take the rest of the package and gargle a bit in my mouth right after to make sure it doesn't come back..

this is painful but it works like a charm!

Theres something out there called "Fletcher's Sore Mouth Medicine." The packaging is pretty plain, but it works extremely well. The directions say you dab it on, but I use an eye dropper.

Kills the pain and heals it fast.

Don't get em like I used to, but growing up I'd get them almost non-stop. Mouthwash is your friend. Seriously.

I used Listerine nightly(not just when you have a canker sore) back then and it made a world of difference.

Along the same lines, look for a product called "Kanka". It numbs the pain and heals the sore. You can get it at Safeway or any drug store.

My mouth feels tender with any toothpaste other than "Tom's of Maine". I use the natural fluoride-free with a spearmint flavour, and have had no problems since I switched many years ago. I also found out recently that my dentist also uses it.

Hope this helps.

I use Kanka and it is okay. I will try the toothpaste thing next time.

Wookie's post reminds me of the add for the oral herpes cream that the chick puts on and then GOES ON A DATE!! I hate that "lady".

What you are suffering from is actually called Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis

Use a product called ORAL MEDIC. None of the other stuff works. This is brand new to the market and only recently available in Canada and Europe only. I did a lot of research to find an equivalent to what medical proffessionals are liscensed to use (DEBACTEROL which I used to have to beg dentists to give me some to take home) and this is the best for consumer use.
http://www.oralmedic.co.uk/

It's not yet even legal in the U.S. because of FDA issues but you can get it in Canada (for once we win) if you ask your pharmacist to order it for you. This is like the stuff that Dentists sometimes have that costs hundreds. It's $9.99 (I got the Medicine Shoppe to order it for me) and you get three applications. What you call canker sores are actually aphthous ulcers which are auto-immune problems and they don't heal because your body for some reason mistakes it for an infection and attacks the healing tissue with white blood cells in your mouth. Thats why they take weeks and months to close up sometimes. Oral Medic cauterizes the area completely and your inner mouth starts healing right away.

There are a lot of people who get sores after the skin is broken in their mouths. Right after your realize you've bitten yourself, wash out with mouthwash ASAP.

If you want to research put in HYBENX or DEBACTEROL in Google. All the other canker sore treatments out there are simply snake oil or anesthizing agents to block the pain but not solve the problem. It's basically an acid solution that cauterizes the entire area which immediately seals up the wound by necrotizing all the tissue (including nerve endings) so the pain is gone and the would is sealed (over what used to be an open and unhealing sore/aphthous ulcer) so your immune system stops attacking it and the body can heal it the proper way.

Thanks for the info Hack&Lube, I'll give that a try. So how do you go about getting your pharmacist to order it? Just go up to the counter and ask?
