Default Free Spyware/Adware Remover?

I kept getting a bunch of pop-up ads and things like that on my computer, so I decided to do a scan and see if I had any spyware/adware issues.

I used Spyware Doctor to do a scan, and it told me I had 7 different threats on my computer (Worm.Alcra.F, Dialer.Coulomb_Dialer, Trojans, etc.), but they won't let me delete them until I buy the full version of their product (for $40).

I don't want to pay the $40, but I still need to delete the spyware. Does anyone know of a good free spyware remover I can use?

Thanks!

I actually caught something pretty nasty last week and downloaded Windows Live One Care

It does want to take over a fair bit on the PC itself, but it got rid of the spyware.

Try Nod32 (just google it) and you can at the very least get the trial version

AVG still has a free fully functional version if you are looking for AV software.
Spybot Search and Destroy is a very good anti spyware program, also free.
Windows Defender is surprisingly good.

I use AdAware and Windows Defender as my cleaners.

For prevention, I avoid IE 6-7 at all costs. Firefox with NoScript makes the web a nicer place for me.

Products that make you pay to clean things they have found are generally scams and often spyware in and of themselves. Don't ever use them. That's a very common method for trojans and malware to get you to grant them permission to make changes to your machine.
