Another prospect under the radar of most people. He's got decent size but is apparently a slow skater. This year is huge for him as far as earning a contract and determining where he sits in the forward depth chart. I wouldn't be surprised to see him eventually moved to the wing.
Also, John Armstrong has been named the captain of the Peterborough Petes and is averaging over a point per game. After being traded to the Petes last year he really took off and now with being made captain, it bodes well for him.
Reg, are you planning another prospects thread similar to last year? It was a great resource to see how the prospects were doing.
Just an item that I thought was semi-noteworthy. Lots of kids come charging out of the gate (whether it's an omen of things to come is another matter). I know Carpentier concentrated last season on his defensive game, so maybe this year he's handed the offensive reigns and rounds out more as a two-way player.
Still, even in a goal-happy QMJHL, 7 goals in 7 games is a nice hot streak.

Charpentier was always thought to be a bit of a project, wasn't he? I'm curious to know how his two way game is developing... IIRC, offensive talent was the one thing that was a given with him. Good catch thought Reggie... I'd never have looked for that.

Hi guys, I'm new on this forum. I registered after I read this post because I was really happy and I had to say something. Hugo Carpentier is my cousin and I'm so proud of him. My interest in hockey only happened a few years ago, when I started following my cousin's career closely. I went to visit him last week-end in Rouyn-Noranda and I attended 2 Huskies games. He had an incredible season so far and I must say I have never seen him play the way he does right now. He works so hard and he's extremely intense and fast, better than ever. We're a very tight family and it would mean the world to us if the Flames would sign him this year.
^i believe central scouting claimed skating was one of the things he had to work on. if he is 'fast' as you say then it's good to hear he has improved in that area
Kid potted a pair of goals last night vs. Victoraville.
I remember Hugo being interviewed the day he was drafted. Kid was so excited he could barely yammer a word out. Seeing excited kids at the draft isn't anything unusual, mind you, but you got the impression Carpentier was genuine.

We'll see what happens!
We'll definitely be hoping for the best for him. It definitely looks like he's off to a great start this year.
With a step forward like he's taken this season, he is a shoo-in to be signed and playing in QC next season.

He and pustinen have me really excited about the flames prospect development. Both guys seem to have been steals as draft picks and should only get better with more and more time in the organization.

Oh yes, he was so excited! No wonder, he worked so hard to get there. I remember staying up that night and checking the net every 2 minutes to see if he would get drafted. We were all so happy that he did, but even more that it was by a Canadian team.
Would or could he be signed right now to play in QC?
Or would he have to go straight to Calgary if signed?
As far as I know the only way he could go to Calgary is as an emergency recall.
To join QC he has to wait till his junior season is over. Some juniors do this for the playoffs.
As I'm not a hockey expert, I'm afraid I don't know what you guys mean by "playing in QC". Do you mean playing with a Quebec team, like the Montreal Canadiens or something? If so, it is not possible. Right now, if he would get signed, I think he would have to finish his season in the Junior league anyway, then he could go to Calgary, unless there is an emergency recall like Vulcan said. Let's take Ivan Vishnevskiy for example. He plays in my cousin's team, and he already got signed by the Stars of Dallas, but still he has to finish his season in the junior league.
I am really proud this morning cause the Huskies won 3 to 2 yesterday, and guess who scored 2 of those 3 goals (the first one and the winning one)? Hugo!
