Get the F*** Out of the Left Lane
So, yeah. I really don't understand the confusion. I'm not talking about Glenmore, Crowchild, 14th, McKnight, or any other big roads in Calgary, but I am talking about Deerfoot.
Why is it so difficult for you freaks to drive in the middle lane? Do you honestly think that because you're doing 100 or 110, that you can straddle the guy in the middle lane and keep everyone else from driving at their own speed?
Seriously, I just went from Anderson to 130th in the left lane, following some dumbass ford focus who was going the same speed as the person in the middle lane. 100 kph. On a clear day.
I wish I had the Batmobile. Let's just say that there'd be alot of people in the left lane with flat tires.

blah blah. im sick of the deerfoot rants by every clown in a 4X4 or jdm ricer.
its gotten to the point its funny when people drive the speed limit in the left lane.
its your own fault you chose to live in a g*d forsaken neighbourhood like mackenzie lake and it takes you forever to get anywhere.

It's called common courtesy. Look it up. You've obviously never heard of it.

Seems reasonable to me. Since when did Deerfoot change the limit to drive at your "own speed"?

You umm do know that the speed limit on the deerfoot is 100 km/h right, so that person in the left lane, he's allowed to be there, and he's perfectly in his right to drive 100 km/h in that lane.
Just because you want to speed dosen't mean that you have the right of way.

I was driving south on the I-75 near Detroit doing 80 mph in a 70/75 mph zone when I moved over to the left lane to pass another car. I passed the car and was reading a road sign to make sure I wasnt missing an exit when I saw headlights in my rear view mirror. I was in the left lane for maybe 10-12 seconds when this guy got up behind me... when I moved back over to the right lane he passed me and slowed down so our vehicles were even and showed me his gun... I stayed in the right lane for the rest of the trip.
I agree with calculoso - common curtosy to move over except to pass - it's not the law in urban areas, but it should be.

I guess you'll be happy to her that they're talking of dropping the Deerfoot limit to 80Kph.

And just because somebody else isn't speeding doesn't mean they are driving properly. If the ford focus knew how to drive properly he would not be in the left lane. If he had any courtesy he would not be in the left lane. Idiots who drive around oblivious to the other cars on the road, like any jerkoff who sits in the left lane not passing, are dangerous to everybody driving, whether the idiot is speeding or not.

In theory, a car in the left lane blocking traffic that wishes to pass could be pulled over and cited for impeding the flow of traffic. The left lane is a passing lane. While I don't care if an a-hole in a SUV is getting pissed that I am not passing a car fast enough, I do care when people simply parallel traffic in the right lanes. Pass at whatever speed you feel safe doing, but actually pass, and then move over so other cars can do the same.

Is the left lane actually a passing lane by law? anyone have a link?
I thought it's more of an unwritten excuse for speeders to have open road.

Right and wrong
If he's in the passing lane doing below the speed limit and impeding traffic he can be sited, but in an urban road way if he's traveling at the speed limit and someone is tailgating him or driving in an improper manner (flashing lights, snugging up or honking his horn incessantly) he can be pulled over for wreckless endangerment.

Your right, its not officially seen as a passing lane, it is a courtesy thing.

You know what would be easier than complaining about people following the laws of the road? Driving the designated speed limit. I can understand getting pissed off if a guy is going 90 on Deerfoot but 100-110?

This is as annoying as driving on a 2 lane highway where you have to pull in to opposing traffic to pass and the guy in front of you is scared to pass the guy in front of him, but too stupid to leave enough room between him and the other car for you to pass one at a time. Then you have to wait for a long enough stretch to pass them both at once, and the idiot will look at you as you go by like you don't know what you're doing.

I was always under the impression that the left lane being designated for passing only existed on rural highways and not in urban centers...
I dont remember seeing "Keep Right Except to Pass" signs on the Deerfoot.

Yawn. Stop whining.
A lot of tight-asses around here. I understand your frustration, but realistically, it's not going to change. There are too many of them.
So if you're unable to get to your destination on time, you have to leave earlier. That's the only solution (and I know, it isn't really a solution to the slow drivers). There's no use stressing and getting all worked up about it. None at all.

I honestly think that half the people in Calgary don't know that the right lane is the slow lane and than there are the jerks who drive slow in the left lane just to purposely slow down traffic and piss others off. That probably causes more accidents than speeding. Anyways one of the reasons I'm glad to be out of Calgary.

I have heard of people being warned, and even fined, for not moving over
if they are blocking traffic that wishes to pass. You are obviously correct that the a-hole behind you can, and should, be fined for reckless endangerment if they are behaving like a clown.

Except that the left lane is not a designated passing lane anywhere in the city, so if the guy is going lets say 80 in any lane on the deerfoot he could be pulled over. But if he's traveling at the speed limit in any lane in the deerfoot, that driver is under no obligation to move over because some yahoo going at 110 to 120 kph wants to pass him.
After that idiot on the cellphone plowed into me last month going at 75 in a 50 area, I have no sympathy for speeders.
