Travelling, can only take 400 songs on my Ipod - Which ones?
So in about a week I'm travelling to Europe for 3 months. I'm backpacking and my only access to music will be my 2 gig Ipod that I'm taking with me. I could just take music from my current Itunes library, but to mix things up I'd like to hear suggestions from others who think they could recommend me some music that could be appealing. I'll obviously have my own personal favourites that will be with me, but to make the trip more memorable I'd like to have some new music with me, some of which I've never heard before. I'm not picky about any genre, new/old whatever.
Any personal favourites/new music that you like, any suggestions would be appreciated.

My fave album of the year so far is The Starting Line's "Direction".
It's more of a indie-pop-rock album, really catchy, and a good listen all the way through.

On my trip to Europe I forgot to pack my cassettes (yes, it was that long ago) and I was on a tight budget so I only had the tape that was in my walkman. One album on one side and another on the other side.
So I think you'll be fine with 400 songs.
My suggestion would be to grab some books on tape (MP3 format obviously) or comedy MP3s. Just for when you want to have a different source of entertainment. They only have to me 32 kbps MP3s, so a 50 minute comedy bit will take up as much space as one song that's recorded at 320kbps.

If your trip resembles some of my younger trips then "Home For A Rest" by Spirit of the West can only be too appropriate.
How about a couple German bands that I like:
Fury In the Slaughterhouse (in English)
Lassie Singers (in German)
Fury is described in Germany as having a "Canadian" sound.
Lassie singers are very fun, and a good way to learn some German. Listen to a few of thier songs and you will be singing along whether you understand or not.
For a little harder German fare, download something by die Toten Hosen.

LOL, that was my anthem for my trips to Europe in 1995 and 1999. I imagine it still suffices today. Good call.

Obviously, you have to have "The Final Countdown" by Europe on your iPod. Everywhere you go in the continent, mention what a big fan you are of Europe's music, then play this song as an example. You are sure to charm the locals.
Also, be sure to play air guitar along with the song.

Take a listen to Bad Religons new album "New Maps of Hell". Not in the mainstream and one of the smartest bands around.

1. Buy better iPod.
2. Tom Petty - Saving Grace (off Highway Companion). Great Tune.
3. Have a great trip.

Believe me, if all my $$ wasn't sunk into my travelling it'd be high priority.

Yeah, save your money for the trip. Europe can be brutally expensive.

John Frusciante - Shadows Collide with People
Chili Pepper's lead guitarist's great solo album.
Beck - Sea Changes
Beck's most subdued work. Very introspective and composed only like Beck can.
The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America
Fantastic rock music.
