I hate Toronto... and I grew up 120 miles to the east of it.

... and honestly.... they REALLY do believe they are the center of the universe... well maybe not the universe, but they DO believe that if its not happening in Toronto it doesn't really matter.

That must be either Bellville, Shannonville, Napanee???

We used to say anything west of the Sault doesn't matter.

I think this 'hate Toronto' thing has become a lot stronger in the last few years and CBC coverage of the Leafs has been a big contributer. The whole attitude of referring to the Leafs as we and including all Canadians as a matter of course fries a lot of shorts in this country and this is the funniest part, they don't even know it.

IIRC in the olden times, pre Canadian expansion, the Leafs and Canadiens mostly alternated on Hockey Night in Canada. This may have a had something to do with the Canadiens being such a great team and Montreal was bigger than Toronto. Now Toronto is Canada's business center, no question and the only time we see the Habs is when they play the Leafs.

You tagged it with Belleville.

I thought everyone in Ontario had that attitude. Especially when they talk about the west.

I was born in Burlington. Thank goodness Dad was transferred back west before my first birthday.

There sure must be a lot of closet Maple Leaf fans in this city. It seems to me whenever the Leafs came to town and scored, the cheer in the Dome was just as loud as for the Flames.

Hopefully in the future we'll get to play more of the eastern teams during the regular season.

Watching the Leafs play their final games before the playoffs, I felt they were playing much more as a team than the Flames.

Mostly just Toronto. To a lot of Torontonians westerners are thought to be a bunch of redneck conservatives.

... and I do everything to perpetuate that belief every time I go back there.

Signed,

A proud Redneck, Conservative, Calgarian.

P.S. I may have been born in Windsor and lived in Ontario til I was 19, but my Great -Grandparents on both my mother's and father's side homesteaded in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

I believe there is still a feeling of superiority in people from Ontario, however I sense the attitude is slowly changing with time, and they are starting to grant us a little more respect here in the West.

I think it started to change when they witnessed the display we put on for the World during the 88 Olympics, and more recently with the huge contribution we are making to the country with our energy industry.

It all takes time, as it did for the US to develop the West, and I'm sure our day will come, if it hasn't already.

I am a born and bred Torontonian. I will admit to having a lot of ignorance of anything west of Mississauga before I moved out here four years ago. Toronto is the media centre of the nation so maybe I can blame them. Toronto's a decent large city but it wasn't going to be the place I wanted to settled down.

Still, I enjoy getting into debates with my dad on the phone and using the phrase "Typical Ontario attitude" to get him riled up.

Oh, and Rerun, Belleville's a fantastic place to be from. I've been to a few Waterfront Festivals over the years.

I love that it's premiering in Toronto. I do know Ontarioans that fit that stereotype (not just Torontonians), but I also know many who don't. Like all stereotypes, it's a major overgeneralization borne out of a grain of truth provided by those who fit it.

Yes, a very nice place to live and retire in... Just not so great if you want a decent job.

I still however, miss sailing on the Bay of Quinte.

Lived in t.o for 4 years, never once did it feel like home. You can have some fun there if you have a lot of money, but what a crap place to live overall.
