Default David Lee Roth

I was just at Flamescentral watching the game and during the second intermission Strachen announces a special guest; Dave from LA.

So this guy gets on stage with just about the worst pair of girls pants I have ever seen and the crowd wonders whotf is this clown. Turns out to be David Lee Roth. Well he drops a few F bombs, insults Calgary while insulting Vancouver, mentions that he was just in Vancouver about 12 times and says that he is going to be playing Flamescentral soon and will be drinking all of our beer and f'ing all our women. The crowd was silent the whole time.

He goes to walk off stage and there is a guy standing there who reaches out and David Lee Roth hands him the mic thinking he worked at FC. The guy takes the mic and asks the whole bar of 2,000 people "Who thinks this guy is gay" He got lots of cheering. It was so damn funny.

No wonder he got booted from Van Halen.

Dude had no bodyguards, no girls around him nothing. No one gave a crap about him. I think it's time to stop performing Mr. Roth. I can't believe the organization invited this ###### bag for the first playoff game for FC.

Had it not been a business crowd, there would have been beer bottles flying

The early Van Halen years were pure magic. I'm just going to be thankful he didn't implode before all of that stuff was produced.

Eddie's almost as bad.

Hahaha I was in the Wildfire Grill, had no idea who that ######bag was either 'til my buddy told me. for the record the guy with the mic asked "Who thinks this guy's a homo".

Strap-on was brutal, but he redeemed himself when he gave away the last prize, when he gave the answer to the question "Who in your opinion is the worst ref in the NHL?" Guy on stage didn't clue in though and just kept saying "McGoo" without the preceeding F-bomb, brutal

No one's forcing you there if you don't want to be there.

Food was fantastic, service is better than I could say for most Calgary restaurants these days, and the staff are as advertised The place definitely lived up to the rave reviews other than the fact Stevie Strapon was being extremely annoying. I'm definitely paying a return visit when they get the full menu up & running in the dining room.

It makes me sad thinking of how good that band was and what some its members have become. Eddie misses the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction because he's in rehab. Roth doesn't go because he's busy bickering with the organizers or the band or whatever. At least Sammy and Mike showed up.

I saw VH about 16 years ago and the only thing good about it was the opening band (Alice in Chains destroyed them). Sammy lost his voice and Eddie was drunk. Just terrible. I saw Roth 4 years ago in Virginia and he was decent, but I've become tired of his boorish behaviour. I was excited for a few minutes when I heard VH was going to get together and tour again but of course they screwed that up as well.

As you said, Dis: at least we got the first few albums we can still smile about.

The dude was never anything more than just a gigolo. He didn't deserve to be on the same stage as the rest of that band. The Bay City Rollers would have been a more suitable band for him to front.

The best part was after the game when we saw him standing outside of FC with his clipboard assistant and nobody else - no chicks, no groupies....nothin. Haha

If he would have been sitting on a bench half a block to the west, he'd would've fit right in with the homeless crowd.

Hilarious. I was there too.

After the game, some lady from CTV is interviewing me, asking generic questions...

"What did you think about the game?"
"How was it inside FlamesCentral?" (I answered Boisterous)

Then all of a sudden I noticed someone in my peripheral with a girl draped all over him. I'm like "Who's this guy?".

It was David Lee Roth, interrupting my interview.

Thanks David. I go to KG, was that David Lee Roth? We are laughing....

I have heard the only stake the flames have in Flames Central is in name only now. They were paid a fee to use their name an memorabilia and now it's owned by the Wong brothers or whatever there name is? This could be totally false, just something I heard.

All class this guy. I remember guys in junior high idolized him for his arrogance and chick magnet status. He was just a little too arrogant for his own good. They should have brought in Alan Frew instead.

Greatest concert I've attended...

December 1991. Alice In Chains, Screaming Trees (Lanegan) and Grunt Truck at the Hollywood Paladium. General admission and I was in front. Alice put on a show and now dwarf Van Halen in terms of their contribution to Rock and Roll.

But you already knew that my friend!

Ah, that's not quite true. There's no mistaking what they did on their first few records. So far superior to anything that came after. Not denying the guy is a clown, but musically speaking he had something to offer...and he gave it for a bit.

Here's a classic Eddie Van Halen Moment
"Guitarist PAT SMEAR was horrified when his hero EDDIE VAN HALEN appeared in a drunken stupor backstage at one of NIRVANA's gigs - as the rocker made a total fool of himself. Smear was dumbstruck when the JUMP rocker drunkenly dropped to his knees and begged KURT COBAIN to let him join the Nirvana on stage for a number. After being refused, Van Halen lost even more of his dignity when he turned to Smear and demanded to play on 'the Mexican's guitar' - Smear is part Cherokee and part black. Smear says, 'He was just being a freak. Like all of us, he got too ######ed up in public once and embarrassed himself.' "
