What's this for? Just donations to the UofC radio because it's good and doesn't make any money?
(althoguh I don't think it's good (preferences rather then quality), just guess as to the reasoning of the donation)

CJSW Radio has a long and colorful history that stretches back forty-six years. Starting in 1955 as a weekly 15-minute program "Varsity Vista," broadcast on CFAC radio. CJSW was later heard on 106.9 cable at The University of Calgary campus and throughout Calgary. After repeated attempts at gaining an FM license, CJSW became Calgary's 13th FM station on January 15th, 1985.
CJSW is run by a paid full-time staff of four, eight executive members, and over 200 volunteers. With an incredible and oft-envied amount of support from within the many various communities in this city, CJSW remains an important radio alternative in Calgary, broadcasting a mix of music, arts, spoken word, multi-cultural and political programming.

Why does it need donations? Can it not survive on it's own with advertising cash?

They don't advertise...it's all donations and a student levy.
(Hoping that wasn't sarcasm)

A student levy that is FORCED onto the students regardless if they want to or not. Very similar to the CBC

CJSR (UofA) does the same thing and very few students have a problem paying a levey. Campus radio is great for the community to have and an amazing service for students. I'm sure if your a student and had a problem you could try and get the levey revoked and be crushed by most of the other students

Most students don't know they are paying a levy. Alot of others find the levy so small that it is negligable or a waste of time to fight. I was a student at the UofC for five years and have yet to listen to that radio station.

CJSW is extremely important...without it all we'd have is mainstream radio stations that are driven by corporate interests, with watered down generic playlists and content...CJSW offers choice and alternative viewpoints, as well as a break from being sold a product. But the general public doesn't really like thinking anymore, mostly they just take what's given to them.

Out of all the levies etc that the SU applies...come on, this one is ok - give CJSW a break!
Campus radio - everywhere - is a huge thing. Man oh man....

I got the red one in case I need something else to wear to the Dome or the Red Mile.
