Default Can someone please explain this to me!

Quote:
A man who violently pushed a toddler, causing injuries that led to her death, has been sentenced on charges of manslaughter and failing to provide the necessities of life.

An angry Shane Hambleton was led away in handcuffs after being ordered to serve a 6-and-a-half year prison sentence for causing the death of two-and-a-half year old Jessica Morris in January, 2003. Justice Beth Hughes found the 31-year-old refused to accept responsibility for the crime and lied to investigators. After suffering blunt force trauma to the head, the girl was placed in her bed by Hambleton and left alone until she was found dead by paramedics hours later.

How does this guy only get 6 1/2 years in prison for killing a little girl and covering up what he did....and this this guy here

Leading Alberta Mounties on a high-speed chase which ended in a crash that seriously injured two people has landed a Regina man a lengthy prison term. Justice Beth Hughes yesterday agreed with Crown prosecutor Jonathan Hak that Robert Obey's crimes warranted a six-year term.

Get the exact same time for leading police on a high speed chase and hurting his passengers?

Something is seriously wrong with Canada's Justice system.....my God.

I will definatly second this one. The entire justice system needs an overhall. I think that it is just a huge joke. Also the Young offenders act is a freaking joke. Very few crimes get the punnishment that they deserve.

It's almost like I come to expect these things from our justice system and it doesn't even shock me anymore. I hope the Tories are given more power to make the changes our system despretly needs. Six and a half years.....what a joke!

Don't worry, he'll automatticaly get 1/3 knocked off right off the bat, so there is 2.16 years, then he'll get another 1/3 knocked off for good behaviour, total of 4.32 years. So he'll serve just over 2 years and be out on probation.

You think your justice system sucks? OJ got away with murder in USA, and all Martha Stewart does is cook & clean and she got thrown in jail. Explain that.

Yes. Vote for the Conservatives to fix the justice system. Like when Mulroney fixed it last time. Oi.

Young offenders aside, usually the court has it within their pervue to punish these guys they way they ought and the judges let them get away with murder. Literally. I don't know if electing our judges is the way to go, but something needs to be done.

BTW - I tried looking this up on the Green Party's web site and all it says is they are for reducing sentences for non-violent crime and increasing minimums on violent crime.
