Bravo Caramon! Glad to hear you lost all that weight. Takes dedication and perseverance to do what you did.

Myself i'm trying to lose some pounds. I was thin most of my life and then started to put the pounds on when I entered my 30's. I'm in my mid 40's and am about 50 pounds over what I should weight. So I joined a gym in early December and so far knocked off 5 pounds.

What was your secret to sucess in losing all thos pounds?

That's pretty good.

I went from 235 to 190 from 17 to 23... Excercize is key. I didn't really work on it or plan too, but I didn't check my weight in 3 years and had a physical and weighed at 190. Blew me away.

Man, any tips you could give a fellow fat man would be greatly appreciated. I can't get rid of my offensive lineman body.

Congrats, that's fantastic! I struggled with my weight when I was younger and finally managed to lose it and get it under control in high school. You really do feel so much better and more energetic. Anyways, you should be proud of yourself. It's a very difficult thing to do!

Congrats, that should benefit your overall health a great deal long term....I'm going the wrong way on the weight scale. Went from 6'-2 175, 3 years ago to about 200 on New Years day. Trying to get it back down to about 185 with a more disciplined diet and more activity. In the first week I lost about a 2 pounds. Seems minimal, but keeping this type of thing in check at my age will hopefully keep it from ever getting out of control. Ideally my goal is to keep my body fat % at around 9.5-10%. For years it was in that level but the past couple I've been lazy and ate poorly and now it's like 14.

well, i reached my goal recently... but going the other way.

i got sick a while back and my weight dropped down to about 165ish (maybe even a bit lower - 6'4 btw). its extremely hard for me to gain weight but after over a year and half of hard work, i finally got back up to 190 just last week. might try to add another 10 or so but damn did it ever feel good to see the scale read 190.3.

A lot of common sense stuff, I ate fast food only occasionally (once a week or once every 2 weeks), made myself sandwiches. Those boost drinks also kill your hunger and are a good meal replacement.

Taking a multi-vitamin is good too.
It's amazing what an hour of exercise a day can do in terms of getting your body to work for you when it comes to burning off calories. My weight was down when I lived in Winnipeg and walked to and from work every day but when I moved to Edmonton and had to drive to work I found it harder to find time to exercise and my weight went up as a result.

However, the breakfast thing is the one that I always neglect.

What type of multi-vitamins do you use?

As a guy who has recently lost a bunch of weight I have to salute you. I hope to be in your weight neighborhood before the onset of 2008. At my peak weight I was 309 lbs and now I weigh in at a scant 253 lbs. I was down in the high 240's before the holidays but I kind of lost control around all that gravy and refined sugar.

Frank, my advice to you would be to lose weight slowly. If you're losing more than 3 lbs a week then it will be hard to maintain the loss after your "diet" is complete. Weight loss plans like Weight Watchers are good as they stress lifestyle changes over the starvation mindset taken by other diets. Staying away from refined sugar is also key. The body stores refined sugar as fat easier than any other food intake. I went from having a condition known as "fatty liver" to having really good cholesterol, good blood pressure and heart rate.

It is also a good idea to get in touch with how much food you should be eating. Portion control is key to insuring good lifestyle changes. The entire hospitality industry has gotten out of hand when it comes to portion sizes. There isn't a human alive that "needs" to eat a triple bacon cheeseburger or a pound and a half of french fries in one sitting. The gluttony has gone to such extremes in North America that it is commonplace. People hardly bat an eye when companies like Burger King introduce four patty burgers with 4 slices of cheese and four strips of bacon. Fast food companies and restaurants will keep giving people massive portions because they know the lifestyle perpetuates itself.

Anyhow, I'll get off my soapbox now. Great job, Caramon!

Nice job, sounds like there are a lot of people on the board who are struggling with their weight.

I'm 6'0, 185, but my body fat % is too high. I'd like to get down to 175 and 15% BF... that'd be good enough for me.

My cardio conditioning blows right now, and I haven't been consistently working out in a long time. Steady meals, lots of water and sleep are also important factors to overall health.

You're the 3rd person that I know directly who has had fantastic results on the Dr. B diet - it is for real.

Again, congrats.
