Maybe they could then split NHL feeds when the Leafs play.

Also for the Olympics.

But get ready for a lot more poker, obstacle course races from Yokohama, Strong Man events from 1983, and the Westminister Dog show 20 hrs a day.

Don't hold your breath for anything new, like more AHL or CHL, or even CIAU.

ALso not clear if how far up the channel guide this will be....probably requiring a digital box ala ESPN (TSN) Classic.

As per CRTC regulations, all new channels must be digital.

They already split feeds when the Leafs play. For example, TSN is showing the Leafs-Bruins right now in the Toronto region but everyone else is watching NHL on the Fly.

A second national outlet would give TSN the ability to air two NHL playoff games featuring Canadian-based teams scheduled at the same time.

The CBC seemed to allude to that issue in its intervention against the application. It said the licence amendment would give "inappropriate advantage" to CTV-TSN and inflate the cost of broadcasting rights.
This is great if you think about it. If you include CTV, they would be able to broadcast up to three playoff games at the same time so there would be no more conflicts like there was last season in the first round.

No matter where you lived in the country you wouldn't miss a Flames playoff game even if the Leafs and Canucks were playing at the same time as an example.

Within 2-4 years analog cable will no longer be availible in any canadian market.

This isn't so much of a new channel as it is an overflow channel for when tehre are scheduling conflicts between different live events that TSN has the rights to. Some of the Fox Sports areas in the US have similar channels where, for example, the Ducks game is on if there is a Lakers game on @ the same time. Not sure if they would just have a test pattern on the rest of the time on 'TSN 2' or not.

That's not quite true. In Canada the CRTC has not mandates any end to analog transmissions, instead they are allowing the market to decide. Although we will probably follow fairly closely with what is happening in the US where all analog TV signals are to be turned off on Feb 17, 2009.

"You know, we only talk about the Leafs 24/7, but I feel that is not enough. Can we add more hours to the day so we can dedicate more time to Mats Sundin's injury?"

"No sir, I am certain the laws of time are absolute."

"Oh. Well, how about a second station?"

"Yeah, we could do that. Effectively 48 hours of Leafs talk per day."\

"Perfect!"

That's a great point. I never got why TSN plays stuff like Strongman competitions and yachting instead of the CHL, AHL, or even NCAA college football. You'd have to think that those events would easily outdraw some of the garbage they play..

TSN2 Launches on August 29th.

Quote:
TSN2, a premium service available in both High Definition and Standard Definition, is advantageous to sports fans, delivering on three key essentials:
  1. Live Sports - a total of 800+ hours of live sports coverage, with an average of one exclusive live event/game per day, available only on TSN2.
  2. Encore Telecasts of Live TSN Programming - TSN2 programming features encore performances of key sports events, which aired live earlier in the day on TSN. For example, European-based sporting events which air live on TSN in the daytime, such as Champions League Soccer and select IIHF tournaments and games, will be repeated later in the day on TSN2.
  3. Better Timeslots for Western Canada - TSN2 presents better timeslots for Western-based viewers with alternative showings. Events and programming which air in late-afternoon/early-evening in Eastern Canada on TSN will now be repeated in Western prime.
