The Oil scouting staff seemed to be in tune with Saturdays NHL Entry Draft.
Oil first pick with the 31st overall selection drafted Michael Grabner from Spokane
NHL Selection: Vancouver Canucks @ the 14th overall position.
Rink Rat “We knew this kid was going to go in the first round, there was just too many blueliners in the top 30. Michael is a pure speedster that can bury the puck, we expect him to take a shot at the Canucks roster this year”.
Oil second pick with the 34th selection drafted Francois Bouchard from Baie-Comeau of the Q.
NHL Selection: Washington Capitals @ the 35 overall position.
Rink Rat: “We thought this kid was also going late in the first round. As a playmaker with top vision, and a great passer who can deliver in traffic, and Francois posses NHL wheels. Considering the lack of offensive depth in Washington, Francois just may fit into the Caps offense in the very near future. We were very happy with this selection”.
Oil third pick with the 52nd selection drafted Mathieu Carle from Acadie-Bathurst of the Q.
NHL Selection: Habs @ the 53rd overall position.
Rink Rat: “Mathieu is a great skater with offensive upside from the blue-line, traditionally the Habs do allow their offensive talent to progress. Doubtful Mathieu will crack the Hab blue line this season, but I am sure I will get to see a lot of him here in Hamilton next season.”
