Default Should we be going for Ovie?

As per RumorBreak Calgary is interested in him.

Do you think that makes any sense, comrades?

I highly doubt he would want to come to Calgary anyways. Ovie has a 10 team no trade clause, of which i would put money on the flames/Calgary being one of the listed destinations.

Obviously a great player, but I don't see how we could fit him under the salary cap, so seems like a moo point to me.

It's a difficult task to out-bull#### Eklund in the world of trade rumours, but RumorBreak is up for the challenge.

We already have a thread for discussing ridiculous rumours.

When the Caps were eliminated, they were talking about the possibility of them moving OV on NHL network radio.
Their consensus was that it would be hard for the Caps to give away OV at full salary.
That this much time has been wasted on RumorBreak is unfortunate already

First the flames would have to trade for Cammalleri then flip him for Ovi and it would have to happen soon for it to make sense...

what palyers would you be willing to give up for him.

I would have to think that Calgary, Edm and Wpg are on his "no-way" list for sure

Good Lord NO.

When he can't be counted on for the important minutes and is a floating perimeter player who doesn't really play well as one of the 5 men in the 3 zones No.

And......when your wife has to share poor boo boos ouchys pictures after they are eliminated.

I'd rather they throw money at getting Datsyuk and bring him back to North America and put on a clinic on how to play hockey.

At least he knows how to play and win.

Getting Ovechkin would probably mean not being able to afford Backlund and Frolik, so no.

THN floats Ovechkin trade ideas, one of which includes Calgary (and was laughably bad in our favour), and suddenly the fake rumour Twitter handles are inventing stories.

The circle of life.

Assuming we're not giving up Monahan, Gaudreau or Tkachuk to acquire him, this probably means one of Brodie or Giordano going back the other way...

You are guaranteed 30 goals out of him. Might even get 50.

Of course you explore your options.

If the flames were going to make a blue jays style "all-in" trade a better fit would be NJ for Kovalchuk and Schneider imo. More bang for your buck in terms of trade value and fills two holes. I dunno how I'd feel about it as I think Bennett would be a goner in any headline move.

THN trade suggestion of 2018 1st, Brouwer, and Fox was of course a hell yeah

RumorBreak saying Bennett, Kylington, multiple 1sts is a big hell no.

It sounds like the Caps are going to test the waters of an ovechkin trade this summer but that is going to be a near impossible trade to pull off

Perhaps a deal like Ovie for Perry+Montour/Theodore would work? Both teams are looking to shake things up to get over the top. Perry is signed to a big money deal but isn't putting up the numbers like Ovie so the Ducks add a good young D which they have to spare to offset the value?

Because of the cap requirements and because Washington is a "win-now" team, they are going to want a star player in return for Ovechkin.

Personally, I don't think the Caps will trade him because he generates a lot of revenue for the team.
