Default I need me a new BBQ

My current el cheapo Real Canadian Superstore is becoming a rusty disintegrating mess. I can't believe how badly this thing has corroded. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised but it's junk now and I need a new one.

Doing some reading over the weekend and it seems like two of the better brands are Broil King and Weber? Rona has a few Broil King BBQ's for sale but wondering where you guys go. Any tips on a good place to find a BBQ and am I on the right track with those two brands?

I don't need anything too crazy. It's really only for two and basic BBQ needs but certainly don't mind buying one with a rotisserie, I'd like to try that out on day.

Go check out BBQ's galore, they have a lot of models and will be pretty helpful. I've always had Broil King but you can't go wrong with a Webber.

I would just go with a cheap one. There isn't a huge difference unless you consider yourself some sort of master.

I went to a hardware store and asked for a deal on the floor model. Saved 50%. Sometimes you can get a better one brought down into a good price.

I disagree about buying a cheap one. I spent ~$200 five years ago and the internals are completely worn out.

I'm searching for one too. FYI Lowes has free assembly if you pay for delivery. BBQs are a beast of a box to transport.

https://www.lowes.ca/gas-grills/broi..._g1773058.html

That's what I'm leaning towards, don't really need the sideburner but I can't find a Broilking 4 burner without one.

I have a Webber, and to be honest, have't been to inpressed. I would follow PF's advice.

If you want charcoal, I highly recommend the Weber Performer:

http://barbecuesgalore.ca/collection...former-premium

There are a few different models, depending how crazy you want to go, but I like the premium because you get the table and a good place to store your charcoal / wood chunks. The cleaning system is easy to use and not very messy at all. Grill has hinges in the sides and a removable middle so you can add charcoal during a grill with ease. The heat is pretty easy to control, though I'm finding it hard to get the temp up past 450 sometimes (I'm basing this on the thermometer in the hood of the grill, so that might not be accurate).

All in all, I love this thing and would highly recommend it. A bit steep at $450 for a charcoal grill, but this will last you a long time.

I get sick of replacing rusted out junk and bought a Weber.

It is built like a tank and heats evenly. I like the look of it too.

10 year warranty on the box, lid and burners.

I guess it depends on why you are unimpressed with it, but to each their own. If you really enjoy grilling then spend the extra money and get a quality product which will last longer, and more than likely cook better.

The cheap ones usually have hot spots, lower BTU's, and are made with cheaper materials (obviously).

There's four places. There's the BBQ Hut, that's on third.
There's BBQ's-R-Us, that's on third too. You got Put-Your-Meat-There.
That's on third. Smoke Low, Sweet Charcoal... Matter of fact, they're all in the same complex; it's the BBQ complex on third.

As a cheap #######, I'd say you picked the wrong time to be BBQ shoping. If you are cheap like me, I'd hold out for when they are 40% off in the first week of August.

Meh, wasn't a shot at you per se. I just don't think the price is worth what you get. But that is just me.

We currently have a Webber Natural Gas grill, but am thinking of buying a charcoal one, as I enjoy an afternoon of beer and cooking.

If you are looking for a gas grill, it will cost just under $1K but at that price point, a Weber will last for a couple of decades if properly maintained. I had a Broil King before the Weber and it lasted only about 6 years, though since then their quality may have improved. Broil King is a good brand but I really prefer my Weber.

The Weber is super easy to maintain, flare ups are rare and controllable, and with the new models that extra burner on the left side gives you a high surface temp for searing (mine is much older, doesn't have that).

Avoid the cheap brands, they do not last, are prone to flare ups, and tend to not distribute heat evenly.

Whatever you get, also get a good cover and keep it on at all times you're not grilling.

If you're looking for an actual BBQ, one that burns charcoal, the choices become much more complicated but mr. kajz's recommendation is a good one.

Edit: Also check this out, these guys know their stuff, and have some cheaper models on their list: http://amazingribs.com/BBQ_buyers_gu...as_grills.html

I need to get a BBQ and am also conflicted if I should wait until next summer and get something higher end or just buy a cheap one now. Maybe this is completely out to lunch but I don't want to get a big BBQ since space is limited so I'm assuming the differences between small cheap and small high end are lower?

Really I just want to BBQ this summer

I'd suggest to buy from a Canadian manufacturer of which Broil King and Napoleon are the best value between $500-$1,500.

I've had nothing but great experiences at BBQ's Galore of which their service is second to none. Take a Lowe's flyer with you as they will match advertised prices!

Totally disagree with buying an inexpensive BBQ, if you want to have something that'll last, cook evenly and look good, I'd rather have a $500 BBQ work for decades than a $200 stop gap that you'll have to swap out every 5 years.

On a related note, if anybody wants to help be an enabler, send me a PM if you'd like to buy a Broil King Signet 70 (propane). I've been extremely happy with mine and am only looking to upgrade and swap to NG.

I've never noticed better cooking comparing a $100 BBQ to a $1000 one. You might have it last 3-4X longer, but is it worth spending the extra $900? I don't know. Not to me. Better places to put that than a metal box that can cook your food IMO of course.

The cooking is in the cook (and maybe the ingredients), 9 times out of 10. If you you go cheap, just remember to keep it covered and clean it properly. It'll still last you years and years.

Yeah another reason I want to go cheap is my balcony is covered and the gas line is tucked away in the corner so the BBQ will get very little exposure to the elements, especially if I cover it religiously.

+1 for the Napoleon and BBQs Galore. They have a wide range of prices/quality (although likely more than the real flimsy $100 Canadian tire specials).

I've had my Weber Q 1000 for 10 years now, and it still works perfectly. It's great for up to 4 people, and is portable. Surprisingly, the ignition button still works.

The huge difference is more even heating and smaller cold zones. If all you're grilling is burgers or hot dogs you flip six times then no there isn't a huge difference.
