Sticking with Arnold ...
the biggest change to me in the last few years is the fact that so many draft picks in each of the last 5 years are still a discussion. Often you pick 7 guys, never get to know 4 of them, and cut many loose. Two years later you look at the names and they never amounted to anything.
Tod Button seems to be on a roll in finding "interesting" players deep into the draft.
2011 - all 5 guys have played
2012 - Culkin, Kulak, Gillies and Sieloff still in the discussion
2013 - Kanzig and Rafikov still in play
2014 - all 6 players on their way, two with WJC chances
Really adds some girth to the prospect list. Don't see a lot of Trubachevs and Shastins

Really tough choice between Arnold and Culkin for me on this one. I went with Arnold, but it's very close in my mind. I think they'll both see time in Calgary this season.

Last year I thought to myself if 10 of these guys make it to the NHL then the Flames would be in good shape. I think from the list of players last year, 10 players isn't going to be hard to acheive. On top of that we are starting to see players traded for assets in the future (Reinhart/Sven) instead of a player just not panning out. Kind of the gift that keep giving.

Went with Morrison. I think he's going to turn into a solid player and could even make the team this year. I'm thinking he's a younger version of Wideman.

This one is really tough.
Arnold, Agostino, Morrison, Culkin, Andersson, McDonald, Smith, Carroll, and Kulak all feel like options here.
Went with Arnold as prior to his injury he was having a great rookie year in the AHL to follow up his strong college career.
Both of his college linemates had strong rookie seasons in the NHL, and he was just as good as those guys at that level (Well not really just as good as Gaudreau but you know what I mean).

I feel like I'm going to voting Culkin for a while here.
It came down to him, Morrison, and McDonald for me. I still like Culkin's progression year over year.

Hadn't really looked at it but the progression is interesting...
TJ Brodie:
Draft Year: 0.44ppg
Draft +1 : 0.79ppg
Draft + 2 : 0.86ppg
AHL Y1 : 0.50ppg
Ryan Culkin:
Draft Year: 0.42ppg
Draft +1 : 0.67ppg
Draft + 2 : 0.80ppg
AHL Y1 : 0.49ppg
I know points aren't really the whole story. And it was Brodie developing his 200ft game that really made him the player he is but in terms of pure offensive progression Culkin has taken very similar steps of improvement to Brodie.
Kulak started the year in the ECHL but a similar progression once he did work his way up as well.
Brett Kulak:
Draft Year : 0.33ppg
Draft +1 : 0.61ppg
Draft + 2 : 0.86ppg
ECHL Y1 : 0.77ppg
AHL Y1 : 0.5ppg
If either of those guys could turn into half as good a player as Brodie is that would be a win for this team.

Morisson for the 2nd time in a row. For me it's between him and McDonald right now.

Still riding the McDonald train.
I am sure as a fan base we probably over value our own prospects a little but you can't deny there are lots of guys in the pool that have probable NHL careers. Maybe not many elite prospects because of those who have graduated but we're also not looking at all grinders and 6th defensemen.

another tough one.
Went with Macdonald, but could have just as easily gone with Andersson.
i love how difficult each round after Bennet was off the board has been, especially because it's not a "ugh everyone's pretty meh, who knows if there's any diamond in the roughs there". Lot of mid to high level range quality in there.

McDonald. Highest upside of those remaining and good progression. Andersson next, then probably Morrison.

McDonald for me, probably will go with Arnold next then Culkin. I still think these 2 are very underrated and will become serviceable NHLers

McDonald and Andersson have the highest upside left so I'll likely be on those 2 guys until they are gone. After that, some of the older guys that aren't really pushing yet in Arnold, Morrisson and Culkin.

A player half as good as Brodie would have been the #4 defenseman on last year's stanley cup champs
And our #2 defenseman once Gio went down.
