How disappointing is it if this team doesn't make the playoffs?
If the flames don't make the playoffs this season do you consider it a huge disappointment considering how well we've played all year and different players are stepping up every time there has been adversity
Or
Are you just satisfied with the fact our rebuild is going extremely well and playoffs don't mean much at this point as we're on our way to being a consistent playoff team for years to come.

The answer differs at different points during the season.
Right now I'd be extremely disappointed to miss. I'd be down right pissed.
If you asked me during our 8 game skid, I would have said meh, it was good while it lasted.

Let's face it the Flames have already exceeded expectations for this year. So many good stories and promising examples of player, even superstar development.
Having said that, now that we can almost taste the playoffs, missing them would be a disappointment for fans and the Flames players as well. Not a huge disappointment but a disappointment nonetheless.
The Flames have defied the odds so much this year, they can surely beat the oddsmakers one more time by making the playoffs.

I would be disappointed, but that would probably be the first instinct for a few days and then upon further evaluation look forward to next year.
This team has fought and scratched for everything they've gotten this year, they've shown tremendous fight, and resolve and determination, and I couldn't have asked for more considering I was expecting a dreadful season full of blowout hockey and bad mistakes.

Both. We weren't supposed to be here.
Either way I'm proud as hell.

I'd be more annoyed at myself that I went 3/4s of the season poo-pooing playoff dreams, and not expecting them to make it...and then as soon as I got on board the playoff train, they started faltering.
Not making the playoffs won't be a tragedy, but will still hurt a bit considering how far they've made it. At the end of the day though, it will be a hell of a learning experience for the young kids on this team.

We've had so many years where we've been the team having a late season rush and just about get in a playoff spot only to have them break our hearts and the teams that were in it all year get in.
It would be nice to be on the other side of that equation and yeah, it will be a bit heart breaking if they don't make it.
No matter what happens though, the season itself is not a disappointment by any means.

It'd be hard to not have playoffs, only because this team has worked so hard to even be in the race...especially after an 8 game losing streak...
But, so long as the rebuild continues in a deliberate manner, and if we can improve our scoring depth, future playoff races shouldn't be this agonizing.
So, both.

I feel as though we all know this was an incredible season regardless of if they make the playoffs or not, that being said, you are lying if you say you won't be at all dissapointed that you don't get to watch these guys in the playoffs.

it'd be disappointing to come so close and fall, but my attitude going into this season/rebuild was as long as they played hard and I was entertained I'd be happy. And I have been entertained.

We are playing with house money at this point.
Whether we get in or not I expect there to be a rally at Olympic Plaza to show some appreciation once our season is done.

How many years have the Flames actually exceed expectations in a year?
I think this would be about the fifth.
1981, 1986, 1989 and 2004 are the only years that I can think of they did better than expected. This year definitely counts as one, so disappointing is a bad word that shouldn't even be uttered in regards to this year. I think I'll just be mad at someone if they don't make it (Refs, Kings, Jets, my ex wife?)

Like many have already said, both. I'm proud that they've made it this far but if they miss I will be extremely disappointed.

It'll be unfortunate if they don't make it in. But in the event that happens, they'll likely miss with what, 93 or 94 points? Injuries are never an excuse, but somehow I think Giordano might be worth an extra two or three wins down the stretch.
Personally, I'm still confident they get in. "Win one lose one" defines playoff hockey, and we own all the right tiebreakers. Throw in a few loser points and book your tickets to Vancouver.
