Looking to stay in Brooklyn this May for a few nights. Planning on using Airbnb. Wondering if anyone in Puckland is very familiar with Brooklyn. Looking for an area with lots of good late night food options, maybe an area with two or more different subways lines in a reasonable distance so a person can get home no prob late at night/morning. Some good pubs or bars etc. I'm not too bothered by a bit of sketchy. Thanks.

I stayed in Brooklyn in August - I was at the Holiday Inn Express near Union St. & 4th Ave. Half a block from the Union St. Subway station so it was really great. Lots of food options close by, and 5th Avenue just up the hill is a busy street with pubs, restaurants, etc., Park Slope is a short walk away. Barclays Centre terminal is one stop away (10 minute walk).

There would be a ton of places in that area on Airbnb I bet. Gowanus is a bit of a more run down neighborhood but Park Slope is really, really nice.

Is AirBnB allowed in NY now? I thought that was one of the jurisdictions that banned it. Did this change? I would be worried about paying for a place and getting screwed.

I think they are still trying to work on it. Home sharing in general within NYC is not allowed commercially. The Hotels are really lobbing against home sharing practices.

I used airbnb last Fall up in the Bronx. I have heard that these homestay things are a bit of a grey area. Not too worried using airbnb though, they don't release the funds to the homeowner until after the stay is complete.

Ended up finding a great(crosses fingers) place in south Williamsburg. 10 minute walks to 3 different subway lines. Place has over 80 great reviews. $70CDN per night, works for me.
