Flames Travel From Philadelphia To Newark Airport

Hi all,

So I've been looking at all these different options for what it seems like hours now and am getting a headache so thought I'd ask CP faithful if anyone is more familiar with the area or has done this before for help!

I'm going to a Flames' game in Philadelphia March 3rd and then basically I need to find my way back to Newark, NJ their airport for a flight first thing March 4th departing at 7:05AM...so I'd like to ideally be there for 4:00/5:00AM?

Any ideas on how best to get there from a cost and hassle perspective?

I thought there might be some trains running that would fit the bill but none seem to be running at that hour for easy travel and cabs/uber seem like they would be a couple hundred bucks.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Can you train it the night before and get an airport hotel? Some extra bucks might be worth reducing the stress.

Thought about that, the Amtrak runs until 8:00PM with the last train out...with the game ending after that.

Don't think that's possible unless I was looking at the site schedule wrong for trains...

Thanks troutman.

Wanderu, same problem none of those times will work...the additional problem I have is that I have to go at an "odd" time, those services only run during the day/night.

Supertranspa might work, I e-mailed them to get back to me to get specifics on the travel pick-up/drop-off and price. I think that's my back-up right now in case I can't figure anything else out.

Did you check schedules to Newark Penn Station and/or New York Penn Station?

They won't get you directly to the airport, but you should be able to get a shuttle or something if you're in the New York area.

It looks like there's a train that leaves Philadelphia just after 11pm and gets to Newark shortly after midnight.

Edit to add: There is a local train between Newark Penn station and the airport that runs until 2am. You'd be at the airport in the middle of the night, but at least you'd be there.

If you're looking to get a couple hours of sleep, there's a Hilton right across the street from the Newark train station that has a free shuttle to the airport. I don't know if it would be worth it for only a couple of hours.

^^ This. Even if you have to take a cab from Newark Penn to EWR, it'll get the job done.

She took the midnight train going anywhere...

Thanks getbak...wasn't even looking at that but you're right, we could take the Philly train to Newark Penn Station and be right by the airport for about midnight-ish.

Then we can still train/cab to International Airport to be there for 2AM, yeah I think we just tough it out instead of worrying about a couple hours at a hotel for sleep.

Thanks guys! I think that all comes down to about $50ish USD/person...I'm waiting to hear back from Supertranspa...they may be a bit more expensive by $15 but if they can get us straight to the airport and later from Philly then maybe we just chill out in Philly until 4AM.

Appreciate your advice everyone!

Great idea R14!

I looked up through some corporate rates I can get and it would be $50 and save us so much hassle!

Best idea. I've done it the opposite way. Flew into LGA. Took a cab to EWR ($100) and then rented a car to drive to Philly.

We hit lots of traffic on the way since it was Sept long weekend, but it was by far the easiest way with no hassle.

I don't imagine you'll get much traffic at night.

R14 wins this thread. I read this thread yesterday and figured the train/hotel thing was the best idea. Why didn't I think of that?
