on Sharks victory
  • Kari was real good
  • knew [Sharks] were going to come with a good push. difficult place to play
  • proud of the boys
  • weren't sitting back, we attacked
  • TJ and Jiri made a heck of a play

on why the team is so resilient after a loss
  • our guys come in with a plan every night - credit to the coaches
  • not going to suck on our thumbs after every loss
  • message is - it is so tight in this conference you cannot afford to be down for a period of time
  • credits leadership
  • get timely performances from players- Kari was awesome yesterday
  • sign of a good team is when you can end streaks or prevent loses

part of our DNA is that we have to overachieve
some stuff about the Coyotes that I was distracted on and couldn't fully pay attention to

Setoguhi
  • Devin has struggled, he hasn't produced
  • it hasn't been from a lack of effort
  • can see the work after practice, at the gym, can really see he has bought into the culture but it hasn't translated on the ice
  • message to Devin is that he has to get his game back
  • has to go to Adirondack with the same effort level and work ethic
  • told Devin that there are players down there that are vying for chances to come to Calgary and he needs to compete against them
  • not closing the door on his return to Calgary - can foresee a time when Devin has a role again on this team
  • hopeful that this will turn positive for Devin - just needs to stay committed to the process
  • he is putting in the effort, it is just not going his way
  • not convinced that you have heard the last of Devin

Backlund
  • rest wasn't getting it done
  • procedure went down yesterday
  • could be skating in a couple of weeks - plus he needs conditioning again
  • will be lying to you when if he told you the exact date Backlund will be back

Colborne, Raymond, Stajan
  • once we get off this road trip we will have a better idea
  • practice on Monday will be when they can say something
  • all 3 have been skating in Calgary

Hudler
  • hasn't been real quiet for us
  • hasn't gotten enough recognition
  • if you chart it and analyze the production of Granlund and Gaudreau you will see that it was mostly with Jiri
  • not just offensive player, really smart player - does a lot of things right
  • can be a guy that makes a difference
  • really important guy
  • great personality, great sense of humor
  • one of the veterans that really settled the young players down

Byron
  • has great speed
  • he quietly touches a lot of parts of the game
  • brings speed and energy on whatever line he is on
  • real threat is on the PK - no longer a secret in the league
  • can play him in critical situations
  • not a big guy but can play in the battles and a difficult guy to defend
  • thought he had a handle on Paul when he first came to Calgary but, really grown to appreciate the different aspects of the game

Adirondack
  • keep taking players from them but keep winning games
  • coaching staff has done great job
  • Todd Gill has done a good job with the young defencemen
  • impressive to watch how hard that team works - part of the DNA of our organization

Gotta think Huska has a positive impact to... I mean Kelowna was practically a factory for producing NHL calibre D-men.

I don't think Treliving will let Byron become an UFA this off-season.

I've heard this EXACT speech from him and Maloney many times when he was with the Coyotes. This is how they "gracefully" send a vet off into the sunset without making it sound like they are just burying him in the minors.

We are never going to see Devin again.

Doesn't mean Devin isn't going to get a chance on another team if he puts in the work.

Why would/should he say anything different? "Devin should just mail it in and enjoy his NHL paycheque because this will be his last" . That would be real classy too...

They asked him to compare the plucky Flames with the plucky Yotes and he made a few generalized comparisons about being underdogs.

He was diplomatic but his tone changed when asked about the potential for Setoguchi to make it back up. Flattened a lot

Yeah Treliving doesn't need to say much. Devin is done, he's been surpassed by about 4 younger hungrier players.

I do think we should all take a collective moment to reflect on the freakout that went on on this board when he was signed. The cooler heads among the crowd pretty much called this situation exactly as it happened. He was given an opportunity, he didn't take a spot of anyone on the roster, injuries opened up tons of spots, and now he's been outplayed and playing in the AHL.

There was no fire, no brimstone. If you were one of those people who was losing their minds about not giving the young guys a chance perhaps it would be useful to think about this.

Yes, but he was also every bit as useless and unnecessary as many predicted, so don't pat yourself on the back too hard

I haven't heard a single interview yet where Brad Treliving didn't sound 100% on it and super sharp. I'm very glad that Burke plucked him from the Coyotes.

It could be argued that the kids had to beat someone for a position, which they did, rather than have it handed to them. Maybe not as unnecessary as you suggest?

edit: what I mean is competition is good.
