Default Here is what Vegas thinks of us. Opening vs current odds

Seeing as I walk through the sports book daily, I thought some one may dig it.
Here are the current vs opening day odds for the flames.
And everyone actually.

Bigger picture is the oilers opened at 50/1 and slipped to 60/1 whereas our odds for winning essentially doubled.

Not at all what Vegas thinks of the Flames... It is what the betting public think.

The Avs at 50-1 ... Are they are as bad as the betting public have them while spending to the cap. Roy will soon be available as a goalie coach.

Iginla seems to be a coach killer.

tb;dv (too big; didn't view)

To be fair the Oilers did just fire their goalie coach so that is probably why they didn't see their odds fall even farther down.

Not bad odds. Considering the circumstances it's probably closer to 35/1

Yes except it isn't an issue unless a sports. Book operator or owner has ownership in a team.

The palms never had the Sacramento Kings games available to bet as the Maloof brothers owned them.

How do these bets work: say I bet a against a team with a 100:1 odds of making the playffs with $100?

So I say team x is not going to make the playoffs while their odds of making the playoffs are 100:1 what would my return be?

If it's 1:1 you win your bet back, nothing more.
If it's 100:1 you win 100x your bet.

If your bet was $1 you win $1 back in the first scenario.
You will $100 in the second.

Today the ducks are -170 and huge favorites. I'm less familiar but think a bet of $100 wins you your $100 back and then $170 more.

If I understand those lines properly (and I am not a gambler, so take with a grain of salt):

The Ducks at -170 means someone betting on Anaheim has to bet $170 to win $100. ($270 total). Someone betting on the Flames has to bet $100 to win $170.

Odds makers are quite astute.
If you watch individual games, they're seldom wrong.
As for the season, there are always Cinderella stories, but on paper the oilers should be so much better than they are.
In practice the team us a chaotic mess.

On paper, the flames lost cammy last year, and have a very young team. In a second year of a rebuild and with competent goal tending at best

In practice we have a great coach and team that believes in themselves.

No odds maker will account for all that.

Lines mean you are risking $170 to win $100 so you're only risking $170 and NOT $270. On the other hand the Flames are prob somewhere around +140 so risking $100 to win $140.
